I may be being over sensitive here Tom but that is what my x and his family believe too.

I can assure you, food allergies and all, I am not a "weak" person. I don't think the human body was designed to handle the variety of food, or the level of processing we seem to think we want.

People need to learn to make a COMPLETE list of ingredients and post it right in front of the dish when they take anything to a potluck. Otherwise vegetarians and people with allergies have to go around asking who made what and what's in it, and it's a damn nuisance, to the point you eventually say f*ck it and stop going to potlucks.

Tom: Thanks for the offer, but good bread is just too hard for me to resist. It's even dangerous for me to go to the bakery.

I am lactose intolerant, but I've never had any allergies. My sister, on the other hand, has revolving allergies: she is allergic to most everything, by turns, but they come and go. The worst thing would be to be allergic to cats. That would be like a Christian being allergic to Jesus. Only worse, because cats are better than Jesus. They purr, and you can pick them up and press your nose into their side and a cat who's just washed himself smells fresh and clean like new-mown hay only better.

I don't go to potlucks for the food, I go for the people. I try to bring a few things I know I can have in case I can't find something to eat but usually am able to muddle though Ok.

I have developed a serious dislike for hummus though. That stuff has become so popular it's every where and people always try to bring it to my house. They don't realize what it's made of.

    I have a simple, basic bread-maker --
Easy - throw in the ingredients that are listed in any bread-recipe book, press some buttons &, presto-change-o, it runs itself.

After following some recipes, I've experimented ... after all, it's just bread, and if I don't care to eat it, the birds & squirrels will.

Try it, octavia; It might ease your mind & body about all those seeds --
The bread-maker is much easier (to clean up) than a juice-maker, which I like also, but is a Royal Mess. (unless you're making juice with a pseudo-British accent on an info-mercial).

I'm allergic to pennicillin -- It's the 1st thing I tell a new Dr., but then, no one takes the time to read the "charts." .....

I have a variety of allergies, although thankfully I have been spared from food allergies. Octavia, I hope you don't think I seriously meant that comment. I like to play the hard nice person, but really I'm a softy. Mostly I like to provoke a reaction. Needling people is one of my favorite pastimes. :eyebrows:

    Chickpeas is what I thought.

It's like an organic cleaning solution. Fresh as new-mown hay, but more so. :) Now, what you and I are covered with, I'd probably get banned for listing. :tape2:

Chickpeas, yes, and the other main ingredient is tahini, which is sesame butter. Hummus would kill Octavia if she ate it!

I must confess that I have brought hummus to many potlucks in the past. I know another person who is allergic to sesame seeds and he knows not to eat hummus. He also makes his own bread (without a bread machine).

I have been a long-time user of Breadman bread machines. I use King Arthur flour (on the above friend's recommendation).

Then you're the exact opposite of me!

I'm not allergic to anything, but I am overly sensitive to hot peppers.

Maybe she should use garbanzo beans instead. It's an easy substitution; all you have to do is turn the can around. ;) :D

Tahini is evil. People buy it and put it in all kinds of things it does not belong in trying to be healthy. People don't always make the association either. tahini=sesame seeds=sesame oil. All the same, all evil.

Sometimes I end up in trouble at conventions etc when they offer a vegetarian option that includes hummus and a non-vegetarian entree that is chicken. Everybody serves chicken.

What ever happened to a nice ribeye? ;)

I make my own hummus at home. I just substitute for the tahini. Garbanzo beans are one of my favorite foods.

Humus & tahini are 2nd in line to being the national foods of Israel.
    (Felafel is the natl. food)

They've all become acquired tastes for me, having spent a year there, ages ago.

Then, there's the oranges that we picked off the trees ...... :p.....

I think it was in Queenstown, New Zealand where there was this dinky little fast food place with the best falafel wraps I've ever had.
