    Hello,
I am new here and ready to make the move to buy my first Prius and i want this to be and great experience by choosing the right options for me.
First off i am Canadian and interested in the Base model (Prius I in USA if i am not mistaken). I have been reading a lot but found some contradictory informations.

    So here are my questions:

    About the USB connection:

1- Does it come with the base model? (Dont think it does)
2- Is it the addon option (accessory) called "iPod Interface"?
3- Do i need the NAV or the enhanced JBL radio or just the plain one?
4- Can i just listen to MP3 from my USB Stick? If yes do i need a specific radio system? (Nav, JBL, Base)

    About the Bluetooth interface:

If i am not mistaken, there is not Bluetooth with the base model. But there is an addon option (accessory) called "BLU Logic® Bluetooth".

5- Can i have the base model and add Bluetooth capability with that option?
6- Can i stream music from my smartphone (A2DP compatible) with the BLU Logic® Bluetooth option installed or that is just for Phone calls?
7- Follow up from #6: If not, does the JBL (enhanced radio) on Prius II support Music Streaming via Bluetooth or i need the Nav & Radio to support that function?

In conclusion all i want is to be able to plug a USB Key and listen to my MP3 or stream music from my cellphone via Bluetooth but i am not ready to pay an extra 2000 or so bucks for that. The AUX-In will do just fine for now.

Thank you all for your answers.
Is it just me or sales people just have no clue about theses things???

you can add blue tooth and usb to the base as kits. The usb kit does not work very well with ipod. Adding JBL (in us trim III) gives you bluetooth phone but not music streaming. To get both built in you need to buy the nav option.

Alternatively there is a scosche dash kit for $30 US plus shipping and tax, then you can add a head unit with bluetooth and usb built in. This is really a better option than the two toyota kits if you don't mind not having the factory look (I think my unit looks better than stock).

    Thank you for your answer

So with the scosche dash kit i will be able to install a custom radio of my choice (Bought separately, that can include bluetooth audio streaming and USB MP3)

    It that what you suggest?

exactly. There will also be a metra kit out soon. You can install a single din or double din unit. Installation of a whole new replacement head unit is probably easier than adding the usb and bluetooth kits.

full disclosure - I'm not sure what the Canadian prices are, so check them out.

scosche or metra dash kit $30 (I paid $31 shipped from sonic electronics)
metra 70-1761 toyota wiring harness $15 (I paid $7.50 from amazon)
pac-swi (for touch tracer steering wheel interface) varies depending on head unit $50

I spent about 12 hours and $1200 installing a pioneer nav unit, basslink subwoofer, and boyo camera. Prices in texas are about $150 for installation without nav, and $200 with nav.

AJC has a thread about the eclipse unit he installed without nav but with blue tooth and usb. ABL and green curry expert have other threads about the dash kit and their installations.

spiderman put together a good guide. Ignore the toyota dash kit and metra pieces but the other stuff is current.
