Anyone got the bluetooth and voice command buttons to work with an aftermarket radio?

    Installed the Pioneer AVIC Z110BT using the PAC SWI-PS steering wheel control interface and PAC TATO JBL amplifier interface. I used the latest version of the SWI-PS which supports bluetooth answer/hangup and voice command buttons on the steering wheel.

    Now, a few people on the forum already have this set up. Did you get the above mentioned buttons working with the Pioneer head unit?

    My SWI-PS programmed properly, but when I press the voice command button, it decreased the volume. The bluetooth buttons don't work at all.

    Anyone had similar problems?

    Here's more info:

    I suspect this is the problem: There is a 150ohm resistor embedded inside the harness that came with the PAC TATO. I connected that harness to the SWI-PS instead of using the harness that came with it (the harness from the PAC TATO already has the power leads wired in). The instructions for 2009 Prius recommends a 560ohm resistor. I suspect that this is causing the problem.

    For those of you who got the PAC TATO but haven't put it into their car yet, put an ohm meter between pins 7 and 8 on the 20pin harness (this harness only has three pins connected). What resistance did you get?

    Another user, ABL, ran into similar issues. Therefore I've isolated the problem to the SWI-PS.

    Ok, PAC just updated their documents to include the 2010 Prius. The 560ohm resistor still applies. So, to get 560ohm, I need to connect a 410ohm resistor (or a few resistors in series to equal 410ohms) in series with the 150ohm resistor already in the harness (410ohm + 150ohm = 560ohm). The easiest way is to cut the wire going to pin #8 and attach the resistor(s) in between.

    For those of you who have the PAC TATO and PAC SWI but have not installed it yet, measure the resistance between pins 7 and 8 on the 20 pin harness from the PAC TATO. Subtract this from 560 and add resistors so you get 560ohms in total. Insulate any exposed wires, then attach everything and program as per PAC's instructions. Let me know if you can get this to work.

    I will try this when my head unit comes out in the next few weeks. Bringing my car to the dealer for some warranty repairs (not related to any recall) and I know they will take apart my dash and scream if they see that mass of wires behind my head unit.


    Update:

    In the end, I removed the 150ohm resistor completely and replaced it with 560ohm.

    Ok, I just got home with the pac-tato the pac-swi and the z110bt. I hope to get the buttons to work right. Can you help me with the resistor setup?

    Actually I have the TYTO-01 from Car Toys. Is this going to be a problem?

    Updated: I guess you'll be using the harness that came with the PAC-SWI (since you are not using PAC TATO). Connect the black wire to ground on the TYTO harness, red wire to ACC, and the white wire to the resistor and to ACC. You need to do the whole 560ohm (there is no resistor in the harness that came with the PAC SWI). Let me know if it works for you.

    Just to make it clear... the TYTO is different from the TATO. They should both work, but the wiring is a bit different (the TYTO is not made by PAC).

    The TATO includes an extra harness for hooking up the PAC-SWI (because both products are made by PAC, and are designed to be compatible). This harness has extra power leads to connect to the TATO. If you use this harness, there is a built in resistor with a value of 150ohms (I have a feeling this might vary so double check).

    If you use the TYTO, to install the PAC-SWI, you need to use the harness that came with the PAC-SWI. You will need to hook up the power leads (ground and ACC). This harness does not have the resistor.

    So... if you use the TATO and PAC-SWI, you need 410ohms (because of the built in resistor)... and if you use the TYTO and PAC-SWI, you need the full 560ohms.

    I am getting information from Car Toys about the pac-tato vs the tyto-01 while I am waiting for my trim plate. I hope to test the impedance later on with the tyto-01 but the car toys sales people say that it is identical to the pac-tato.

    The NAV came off yesterday as I'll be taking the car in for warranty repairs on the dash tomorrow (plus I'll be getting the software update for the brakes too). I'm going to try changing the resistance when I put everything back this weekend. Will update this thread once I'm done ;)

    Update: Ran into another problem with the dealer which I could only sort out on Monday. Will try this as soon as I know they won't take apart my dash again :mad:

    Ok Im confused on the Pac-Swi instructions.

    I have these parts.

    Pac-Swi-PS vs 1.6.8
    TYTO-01
    Avic-z110BT

    The instructions say:

    • Read the note in the chart below. These are the notes found in your instructions (note # 4) included with your SWI-PS . If the vehicle is equipped with a JBL system the PAC TATO or Peripheral TJA is required.

    4 Connect pin 6 wire to ground. Connect pin 7 to the INTERFACE's White wire. Connect one end of a 560 ohm resistor to pin 8, then connect the other end of the resistor to the INTERFACE's white wire. So basically you will have two wires, one with a resistor in series, connected to the INTERFACE's White wire. Map/Info button is not used.​

    Now if you look at my photos, I dont understand what Note 4 is talking about.

    Am I connecting to PIN 6 7 and 8 of this connector from the PAC TYTO?

    What am I doing in Note 4 here, where do they connect into this pactyto?

    The pin 6,7,8 refers to the pins on 20pin connector on the car on pkg 2. I'm not sure if this is same on pkg 3 with JBL though.

    Do you have a PIII with JBL? If so you need the PACTATO If the vehicle is equipped with a JBL system the PAC TATO or Peripheral TJA is required. This will include the required connector.

    I do have the PRIUS 3, that is why I bought the TYTO-01 (same as the PAC-TATO according to Car Toys)

    One more question in regards to the vss wire and the reverse wire. Did you wire these up and to where? So I simply need to do the bypass for the brake (move one wire over) and ground the brake but Im not sure where to wire the vss and the reverse wire.

    My JVC reverse wire (Light Green) is connected to ground. I do not have a vss wire.

    josharmour, there are two 20 pin harnesses, one for power, and the other for the steering wheel controls. Looks like the TYTO only comes with the power harness. You will need to get the other 20 pin harness.

    Finally put everything back today, and everything works! :D

    So here's the solution:

    Replace the 150 ohm resistor with 560 ohms as per PAC's own instructions. I didn't put any resistors in series, I carefully cut open the shrink tubing and un-soldered the 150 ohm resistor that was on the harness. Then I soldered on the 560 ohm resistor (it came with the resistor kit inside the PAC SWI-PS box).

    I did the math myself and found that the tolerance is pretty slim, so 560 ohm barely works, but it's the best resistance to use.

    If anyone else got it successfully working by following the instructions on this thread, please post!
