In my family we had decades of loyal GM buyers. Every one now is so aware of how they were ripped off and betrayed by that company over the years that none of them ever buy GM products, and haven't since about the mid 1980's. I was wondering if others still refuse to consider a GM product after so many decades of lousy products.

Now on my second Toyota Prius, I probably wouldn't consider another kind of car, despite all the media frenzy of late over the acceleration complaints. Anyone else feel the same ?

Only if at the time I buy another vehicle, they have a better one to choose from. But I doubt that will ever happen.

Almost everyone is worthy of another chance ... so heck, I'm no advocate of GM, but if/when it comes to either an EV or PHEV making it into production FIRST, I'll take whatever/whomever gets one on the showroom floor first.

If GM comes out with a car that meets my requirements the next time I'm in the market I'd definitely give them the same looks as any other mfg.

Owning a Prius has nothing to do (at least for me and my family) with buying or not buying GM. I make every effort to do my research; past experience with a brand is important; I read all I can find on the various cars that I am considering; I test drive several, make my decision and seek my best price. Pretty straight-forward. No politics involved. That is what lead me to the Prius ... and at this point in my life, I could not be any happier with my choice. Our needs, while not unique ... and specific, and that plays a major part of the final decision. The Prius is living up to my expectations, and meetings my needs perfectly.

While I have nothing against GM, they have really hyped and produced several really inferior (read that BAD) cars over the years. This months Car - Consumer Report magazine, demonstrates pretty graphically my point. In each categor ... the GM and Chrysler vehicles show a lot of "black circles or half-circles" extending over a lot of years.

GM's slogan ... "May The Best Car Win" says it all for me. The "best car" in my view, is NOT manufactured by GM.

My sentiments exactly and I will add that I am really pulling for a US manufacturer to do this. I would really prefer to purchase my next car from a US company so that at least the profits are kept in the US, since we are "part owners" now.

They will also need to prove their reliability to me also. Ford has come a long way in doing this but GM still has a ways to go in the "sustained" reliability area.

Don't think so ripped off too many times by them in this lifetime. Fool me once type of thinking. I have owned several new GM cars and too many never fixed correctly. Oh and recalls too.

I had one new Chevrolet i ordered and it came in with 12 items that were screwed up the day i took delivery. They never did get everything fixed and one item was repaired over and over again and just keep breaking like 4 or 5 times in 90,000 miles.

No I have been s*rewed too many times by GM to ever trust them again.

I had a 96 Chevy lumina, which of course is part of GM. And it gave me so many issues for so many years. Although, I am intrigued by the Volt, I find it highly unlikely, that I will ever consider a GM veichle again. In spite of the Toyota news now, I plan to remain a loyal Toyta user/buyer.

    I absolutely love my Prius.

The only car that has ever left me stranded was a Pontiac. I'm not biased towards foreign manufactures, and like others, if GM comes out with products worthy enough for me to consider, I'll think about it. At this point, the only vehicle I would consider buying from GM is the Corvette. But at that price point, I could think of many other cars I would rather own.

I'd certainly consider one if they were as good and as reliable as a Toyota or a Honda. It remains to be seen how their reinvention progresses. Ford has certainly come a long way, so it is not an impossibility. I'd advise against holding your breath waiting though.

Heck, I am considering one right now. Found a company that will convert a Chevy Equinox.
And, if they would offer a pure EV, I would consider that as well.

It's becoming nearly impossible NOT to buy GM. Genetically modified foods are ...
    What? Oh. Never mind.

Seriously, I have never owned a domestically produced car. The many domestic rentals I've had have been, well, weird. The Japanese models have been more reliable than the German ones. So, I'm back.

Cars I would buy from GM (and why I didn't purchase them):

    * Chevrolet Cobalt SS (TC not SC - good performer for the money, but 1. I would rather have AWD and 2. a big aftermarket community, which pretty much means going Japanese)
    * Chevrolet Corvette Z06 or ZR1 (not a middle-aged guy with a half-unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt trying to pick up women half his age with his car :))
    * Pontiac G8 GXP (heavier than I liked)

Recently considered (I wanted to buy a daily-drivable toy):
    * Cadillac CTS-V (comments from SPEEDEAMON re: body roll, and I ended up deciding not to spend that much money on a toy)
    * Pontiac Solstice GXP (didn't really like the retro look, same ergonomics as the Sky)
    * Saturn Sky Redline (ergonomics weren't "right", hard to describe)

Question: Isn't this more FHOP material? I mean it doesn't really contain any actual news...

I just don't know what one thing has to do with the other. If they had something I liked, I would certainly buy a GM even if I do prefer Fords.

There's a better chance of me growing hair. GM had their chance(s) & blew it.

Not likely. Never drove a GM that I cared for. Had a Ford that spent extensive time in the shop for all sorts of recalls including the fire ignition issue. Tried Hyundai once and that was an even bigger piece of crap with major engine failure 500 miles past warranty on an item that had been repaired while under warranty.
My Toyotas have been reliable in their upkeep and performance....that and Mercedes, Audi but the last two are very expensive.
