I have noticed the strangest thing...When I get to work my drink is still nearly full. After 3 full months of Prius ownership I have noticed that I have stopped drinking while driving.

I tried to figure out why and my nearest guess is that the stiff suspension (compared to my previous SUV) is making it harder for me to relax and take a drink.

Anyway my Starbuck's bill is way down.

    Anyone else notice a change?

Not really. I hardly ever drink on the way to and from work, but on a couple of 200 mile trips, I found no difference. Drank some cans of soda and a couple of bottles of water with no difficulty.

It could also be that I spend too much time watching the milage display...I think the single cupholder is great and in a perfect location for reach...I just do not know...maybe I should see a doctor.

I haven`t really noticed a big difference. Maybe I do drink a bit less, but nothing to do with suspension. It`s all the cup holder.
The Prius cup holder is in an inconvenient spot and different shape compared to my previous car, which makes it a pain to open a bottle whenever I want to take a drink (no open bottles in the car, ever. I always cap everything after every sip.)
My old holder was a rounded square, so I could lean the bottle slightly to secure it in one spot and remove the cap with one hand... Now I can`t so it`s more of a pain... Which makes me have to wait until I stop to use both hands to open one.

You know perhaps I should retract my perfect location comment. You remind me that the best cupholder was in my BMW 328i. It had those spring loaded "fingers" in the bottom of the cupholder that automatically adapted the cupholder to different size cups and bottles. Maybe my Prius has those too? I have not noticed...I need to go outside and take a look.

Just looked....no little magic fingers...Didn't Toyota invent the modern standard equipment cupholder? Wasn't the first one in the Gen II Camry? I seem to remember that. A couple of loops near the bottom of the center stack if I recall.

Anyway I also notice I don't have a rubber liner for the cupholder! I never realized until now...I have always had a liner! What will I do when it gets gunky!!! Toyota should make and sell a cupholder liner aftermarket..

This is another unadvertized human engineering feature of the Prius. In addition to the reduced need for fuel stops, the Prius engineers also designed the car so fewer potty stops would be required.

On the one hand you could be referring to the fact that I am drinking less...On the other hand you could be making a disgusting reference to the lack of a rubber liner...in college we would use an empty beer bottle...

I usually drink water out of a big plastic cup I fill at home. It fit my Gen2 Prius pretty good but it's a bit top heavy for the Gen3 cup holder. It has tipped over a time or two, fortunately water is easy to clean up. I guess that's just one of the hazards of being a drinking driver. :)

I have never driven a vehicle that my dw has not eventually spilled an Orange soda in...Forbidding her to drink Orange soda does not work since she is seriously addicted...have you ever tried to get orange soda out of carpet and upholstry? It is the absolute worst! I am clearly in lot of trouble with this Prius.

It's a special Prius safety feature. You should never drink & drive .

Sometimes I feel the flip up cup holder is intended more to be a coin or knick-knack box. I have to admit the cupholding score for the Prius blows.

I don't drink or eat in the car at all. I refuse to let food in the car.

I found a full Venti Starbucks tend to splatter around the upper cup holder and I need to clean around the cup holder and upolstery weekly. The lower cup holder also spills full Venti Coffee but because that one is removable it is so easy to clean. Wish the upper cup holder was removable for easy cleaning. I also wish there was a better place to keep the Iphone plugged in other than the lower cup holder. None of these issues are deal breakers. :) just thoughts for future improvements.

Regards from 10 miles off the West Coast of New Jersey.

    Too late.

I manage to drink an entire mug of joe during my (roughly) hour commute every morning. But my drive is mostly at speeds below 45 mph, not very crowded and there are stoplights. So I'm able to drink while coasting along and sitting at lights.
