Backup Camera Display disappeared after phone call came in?

I was in reverse gear while backing up my PriusIV, then a phone call came in and the phone screen poped up replacing the camera display. After I disconnected the phone call, the display turned blank, the backup display did not show up again. The car was still in reverse gear.
I tried to put the gear to P and then R again, the display was still blank. Have anyone had this problem before? A bug in the NAV display system?

It's a bug and not a bug. That's the way it works and it's really really annoying. Thankfully, I haven't had a call come through while backing up though it really should revert back to the camera if you cancel the call.

Thanks for your confirmation. Looks like the Prius Nav system is not well tested. From system engineering point of view, they just missed several useful use cases and left some blank spot in the system with undefined behaviors. Fortunately, it is in the Nav system, think about what will happen to the braking system:) Well, modern car has becoming too complicated that it is really hard to make it bug free....just hope the bug is not safety related....:)

I noticed the backup camera goes out too if the Audio button is pressed while in reverse. Would definitely be nicer if the backup camera was not subject to overrides.

Has anyone tried to create a mod, e.g. a switch, that would turn the backup camera while the car is in drive or park? Some buses have the backup camera feature available all the time so the driver can get a better view of cars near the bus's tail, even when in drive.

Actually, the car monitors the caller ID of incoming calls and forwards them to a computer in Tokyo. Corporate then determines if the driver should or should not receive that call. If they are not satisfied that the caller is a Toyota Supporter, they disconnect the back-up camera in protest.

This mod exists for the Gen II (try a search). Not sure if anyone has done the Gen III or not, but it shouldn't be all that different.

Wow! If this is true, I think Toyota should charge an extra 10K for this undocumented feature. Or maybe this is the upcoming AT package II:)

Or similar to Microsoft's blue screen of death, this is Toyota's Blank Screen of death?

It's amazing how many consumer products use the Windows operating system in background. After all, why write code for an operating system, display subroutine, etc. when it can be purchased? The code for small devices is a very streamlined version, but I find it interesting that my phone, for instance, locks up at least two or three times a week. Gotta love that Microsoft operating system!

So maybe Toyota purchased Windows as their operating system - it would certainly explain the random acceleration and braking issues! :D

The Gen II does this too. Shifting to D and back to R should restore the backup view.
