To watch this whole Toyota debacle you would be forgiven for thinking only US Toyotas are faulty. In Europe reports about Toyotas are rare and indeed since this whole story broke the press here have found it very hard to find anyone with a problem. They found some guy (Sky news affiliated with FOX news) in the north of England in his 70's. Yeah, go figure. There are much more problems with our local so called premium brands.
In my home market, even after all the bad press, for the month of Feb Toyota is the number 1 seller.
This is a conspiracy against Toyota. Headlines can be bought and sold in the US.
This latest Prius runaway - look at that guys body language, its obvious he is lying.

Welcome to US. Here the reporter got nothing more important/interest to report lately. Anything they can get hold of, they will make it as big as they can. For example, the latest San Diego incident, the reporter in the news kept asking the police chief are you guys trained how to stop Prius these day when their brake won't stop? After the officer say "No, and this is just a general way the trained officer will do to any car." then the reporter turned around and keep asking him the same question in different ways...

As an Aussie I appreciate the reporting of problems with the Prius.

Once anything appears in print or on the web in the US our mindless reporters pick it up, don't bother to check facts, but just sensationalise to their hearts content. Anything that makes our locally produced cars appear to be a better buy is reported, not much criticisms of our local products even if they are a load of rubbish that does not really reflect what the motorist wants.

My wife heard the latest story on the TV news and now does not want to borrow my Prius. Means I once again have it all to myself.

It is a very dissappointing car, there is at least 3 inches of clear space under the accelerator pedal, the mats are so firmly clipped down at the rear I have trouble getting them out to vacuum the floor, the brakes have given me no problem ( except after the recall I find it harder to come to a smooth complete stop and I am getting the last little bit of a jerk as the car stops completely). I have even finally got used to the combination of the LiquidAux and aux port to listen to my iPod easily.

And worst of all at 7000km I think I might need to lift the bonnet and check the washer bottle level.

Yeah - and I am soooo disappointed with over 500 miles per tank. Cant believe you have to check washer level already!

So you are disappointed with your car because of 3 inch clearance, recalled fixed brakes? I am confused.

Thats the problem it didn't sound like he was being sarcastic since he was really complaining about the mats being stuck down and can't move etc. Very confused sarcasm.

Toyota really needs to expose this story for what it is, a total fabrication. If this shoddy journalism from failed reporters can be proven for just that it will put a stop to this circus.
I also think there are some journalists posting here untruths just to stir the muck.
I really do think there is a campaign against Toyota. The technology in the Prius is just way to far ahead of anyone else.

I'm kinda pissed at Toyota that after 60K miles I haven't had the pleasure of getting a $400+ brake job. My old SUV needed that every 20K miles. I miss those nice people at Midas.

Well to be fair I think Toyota does have a problem but to the extent that the media plays it out to be? Nahhhhh. BTW if the tech is so advanced why doesn't my GPS tell me how fast I'm driving and set time zones automatically when I change zones on a long trip? Personally I wish I had never purchased the GPS, stand alone units are much better and much much cheaper.
