Well I finally did it. Yesterday I traded my 2009 Smart Fortwo for a used 2007 Prius Touring. I'll admit it wasn't an easy switch I loved my little smart and it was always exciting to drive.

What pushed me over the edge is that I've recently taken a position within with my employer that requires extensive travel between job sites. The smart was ill-suited to carrying all of my gear and luggage needed for a two and a half week stay on the job site. To make up for that I added a tag-along trailer just to carry all of my stuff. Then the worst happened. I had a blowout in the middle of no-where Mississippi. No spare in the smart resulted in a huge tow bill just for a tire. A simple puncture would have been repairable on the roadside, but the tire was completely shreded leaving that kit useless. Also throw in the stiff ride and my love affair for the car was over.

So... I took the car, trailer in tow, and made a trade for my new (to me) 07 Prius. I got a great trade in value and what I feel like was an overall good deal off the lot. With 40K miles and almost no interior wear and a $14k price tag I'm overall happy.

I was a strong supporter of the smart community and I intend to become a strong supporter of this community. My biggests interests in regards to this car is with mods, maintenance, and snooping out the next even more efficient hybrid down the line (keeping my eye on the FT-CH, the VW L1 looks hot too though).

BTW, No I do not fear the car, and actually did the deal with the media hype going on the TV in the Toyota dealer's showroom. At least I know where my start/stop switch is and how to put a car in neutral... imho if you put a teddy bear in the hands of some people they'll find a way to hurt themselves with it.

Good to know I'm not the only one to make the switch.

I hope that should be read as "exciting in a good way," and not "terrified that I was going to be squished."

    Welcome aboard!

I assure you it's exciting in a good way. The smart really is fun to drive (like a Miata is).
