Just picked up new 2010 prius 3 yesterday and took 300 mile round trip to ski resort.I always thought the 50 mpg Toyota claimed was a slight exaggeration. And after trip all i have to say is...ARE YOU KIDDING ME,i cant believe on a 300 mile trip(round trip)with alot of mountain driving and speeds hitting 70 i averaged 52 mpg..WOW.Not to mention the car drove like a dream.I cant tell you how impressed i am with this car.

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad you had a great experience. That first Prius "oh my" experience is great.

Just an fyi - in case you're using the display's mpg, the computed mpg is often 3-4 MPG higher than the real mpg. I got 52.9 mpg for today's fillup, but the display's mpg was 56.5. This difference is very well known.

We had a similar experience. The actual mileage is 5-8% lower than the display, but it is still specacular. Enjou your Prius and this site. This is the source of tons of valuable info about your Prius.

I also got my new gen 3 pri a week ago and got 52.5 mpg and feel great about the car....
can anyone tell me how to calculate the actual? Is it just the miles on the odometer divided by the refill gallons on the pump?

Congratulations and welcome to the Prius's club.
Today, my Prius is in the dealer for several works: upgrade ABS, change of the wheels (winter => summer), a carry-bicycles 'is fitted in. They give me a Toyota Yaris for the whole day but I am delighted to recover my flying carpet : so smooth, so quiet, so pleasant. Since I'd owned the Prius it's the first time I drive a normal car.

Traded-in my 2007 Prius for a brand new 2010 package III on March 7th... Yesterday I filled up after 572 miles, with an average of 57.8 mpg! Not bad for winter fuel and very little hypermiling! Can't wait see what kind of mileage I can get hypermiling in the summer with a few tanks under my belt! Crazy thing is that when I filled up yesterday, I squeezed 12.44 gallons in! Shooting for 700+ miles on this tank! My previous record in my old 2007 prius was 58.7 mpg with 640 miles on the tank in the summer... Pumped!!!
