Clear front shield

    Does anyone have a clear bra/shield for the front of their Prius ? I had one on my Corolla before, the headlights,hood,bumper, mirrors, etc....

    The only problem I have with it is that if I hit something (hopefully not) or someone hits the front of my car that's it. I never thought of it that way before, but I doubt the insurance would cover something like that. This place I know will do it for $500, but ugh.....i hate having the back of my head if the front got damaged by impact.


    I'm not sure how Toyota is now, but before when I had my '99 Camry, the paint kept flaking off from a tiny bit of damage in the front. There was just a small bump that wound up flaking off a lot of the front bumper.

    Insurance coverage usually covers accessories on your car, provided you can prove you put it on the car. With appropriate receipts this should be covered unless you have bad insurance. It is a protective device. They may depreciate it but it should be covered.

    IMO it depends on your insurance. Ask your insurance company if it is covered. NJ Manufacturers won't pay for it because it is just cosmetic. If the collision isn't your fault and neither insurance company will cover it then sue the responsible driver in Small Claims Court.

    It cost about $350 to $500 depending on the thick material and/or pcs in CA. Since it is less than $500 I doubt it is worth it to go thru insurance.

    I am having a lot of trouble thinking of any way that the film would be destroyed without a whole lot of sheet metal going with it. How do you think that might happen? If one panel got scraped, you can buy individual pieces to replace them.

    Quite true. The film will still adhere to the damaged part--no flagging, no bubbles.

    You are installing yourself ? When I got mine done it took nearly half a day. This was for a Corolla S though.

    If you guys haven't seen this before it is pretty durable.. The only way for it to get damaged is if there was a physical impact on the bumper. Little rocks and whatnot won't damaged it. It is pretty similar to the clear film they sell for cell phones as well. You can get it for the hood, front bumper, headlights, and side mirrors.


    With it being 300-500, I'm not sure if it is worth paying the premium for insurance.


    Anyways......I called up the place and they wanted $499 which was a special they were running. Normally they said it costs $699 (i think). Looks like the special is running out this week and I cannot get in. Even $499 is still a decent amount of money, but $699 is ridiculous. Being that I am not an AIG or Goldman Sachs employee who gets trillion dollar bonuses courtesy of the US Government, I'll probably just pass on the whole thing all together.

    I just stopped by my friendly clear bra salesman and he wants $350 for the bumpers and rear mirror and $650 to do that plus the entire hood. I think that is too much. I don't think it is worth it to only do the bumpers and mirrors, the hood is just as exposed and has proven to be more likely to take a hit than the rear mirrors.

    I have a product called Clear Shield that was installed about a week after I took delivery of the car last August by one of the local tint shops. I had the bumper, mirrors, headlights and about two feet of the hood covered. Original quote was $700 but I ended up getting it for $600.

    They use small lava rocks (they call it sand) on the snow and ice here which is pretty tough on paint and most winters I get several nicks and dings. The stuff works, this last winter I didn't get a single ding and I'm sure that car was hit with rocks big enough to chip the paint were it not for the Clear Shield.

    The 2010 Prius hood is still aluminum correct? I have some rock chips on mine and don't want to worry about rusting. I would have gotten the clear bra. But, with the chips already in there I don't think it is worth it now.

    Yeah the hood is aluminum. It's fairly light. The clearshield you have to get almost immediately to make it worth while. If there's is already partial damage it may not stick correctly.

    I wanted to get the clear bra too for my new ride. I had it on my Infiniti G35 b4, but like an earlier post, it's quite expensive. I might just get my tailights smoked and also my headlights and foglights

    For $500+ it is hard to justify. I do like it but as I said before it only takes one hard hit and the bumper is damaged along with the shield. If your insurance covers it that great but I cannot justify it economically even at $499.

    Well, with Chicago parking I can't justify getting the clear bra. The front bumper will get hit and the clear bra might help a bit. But, it is a fact of life here and I just live with it. I look past my rock chips.

    lol, Chicago def not. I live in Indiana and I have to go to Chicago from time to time for business trips. It's hard to have a nice car in Chicago in general. There's a lot of wear and tear just on the traffic alone plus the public transportation is better in Chicago vs. Indiana. The clear shield itself only protects impacts that could chip the paint, but not actual strong physical impact.

    I'm just putting on a few coats of carnabu wax. It is what it is.




    The place I called for it too is shady which helped seal the deal. I don't mind business looking to bring people in but when the guy says the promo for it ends at the end of the week, I called in again as a 'different car' and he says it is still going on. Same guy.

    Sometimes some shops will say anything to get you in. Typical marketing tactics trying to make it urgent.

    Don't pay a dealer $600 your getting ripped off!!If you can't do it yourself
    call around to some body shops to see who does theirs!! or look in the phone book under Auto trim.Had a guy come to my house to do my '09 when new took him about 20 minutes.Did just the hood $125 the dealer wanted $250!!Looked mint.Helps with resale,I do all my cars now!!

    I like try to do it myself if I can so for my 2010 V I ordered this on Ebay
