This implies that you consider all other possibilities as implausible, or (more likely) haven't really explored them. I call bias!

Well, I appreciate the pointer. But really? Just because there's no plant in front of her? Pffft.

Sideways and just a head shot.... and Daniel's in it! I still need something better (way better!) before I vote.

There's one of her from almost the waist up, but if she doesn't want to post it, I'll be damned if I'm going to.

That would be me, and it's not because of her. I'm just asocial. I wouldn't have said hi to my new neighbors if my wife hadn't started talking to them.

well the question should be "how far DID i travel to meet Octavia?" and that would be around 120 miles one way.

I'll add that you'll also be damned if you don't. So...who would you rather be damned by?

    Not sleep with. Damned by.

Let's do some scenario planning here:

    Damned by:

Person -> result -> course of action
    1. Internets -> no repercussions -> :rolleyes:
    2. Octavia -> 'damned by' leads to 'not sleep with' -> FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFfUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
    UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
    UUUUUUU

Clearly, he is following the correct course of action.

You forgot to factor in that you can run faster than me and your wife could take us both in a sprint.

I thought we already cleared this up. I fear you remember?

I think a get together is a fabulous idea! Matter of fact, I'm turning 40 in Sept. and need an excuse to have a party. :)

I'd love to go to NZ. Maybe we should ditch the boys and just do it! :D

If I didn't already have plans in August, I'd invite myself to your party!

That would be me. I didn't start this thread though.... that would be Daniel.

So, Octavia, are you planning on doing the Portland Better Living show this weekend?
If I'm not totally sidelined by this sinus cold, we plan to go on Saturday... :)

    Cool. When was that?

No, in this case, it's damned if I do, and just fine if I don't. So I won't. But Octavia has the picture, so you can ask her to post it. There's no reason not to. She is beautiful. (Fully clothed in the picture, BTW.)

Oh, she's made it very clear that sleeping together ain't happening, no matter what. I just don't want to lose a really nice friend.

That's unfortunately true of most agnostics - which is why religious intolerance (both muslim and christian) is so rampant these days.

The core belief of every religion is that all other religions are mistaken. My view is that all religions are equally valid/possible in the areas we know nothing about and/or are (currently) impossible to quantify (like "do humans have souls" or "what happens to our consciousness when we die").

I also know that in the areas we do understand (like the orbit of the earth around the sun, and evolution), facts and logic supercede dogma - it's not "faith" to believe something in the face of solid evidence to the contrary.

What makes me different from most agnostics is that I'm still interested in learning more. What makes me different everyone else is that I'm not willing to blindly accept at face value one particular hypothesis to the exclusion of all others. Like my namesake, I require something slightly more solid before I will draw any conclusions.

My agnostic position is that there isn't a whole heck of a lot more you CAN learn, so why bother? I think your use of Zealot is where the misunderstanding is.
    "–noun

    1. a person who shows zeal.

    2. an excessively zealous person; fanatic.

    3. (initial capital letter[IMG]) a member of a radical, warlike, ardently patriotic group of Jews in Judea, particularly prominent from a.d. 69 to 81, advocating the violent overthrow of Roman rule and vigorously resisting the efforts of the Romans and their supporters to heathenize the Jews. "

Zealot | Define Zealot at Dictionary.com

To me, it's pretty hard to be a zealot on a position that says there is no right answer. "I KNOW I'm not right, dammit!"

I will be in Western Washington May 6 to 18, early near Bellingham, later near Aberdeen I suspect, so if there is a get together in that time frame I could be there. (without any Prius)

You could tell the wife you were meeting Jimbo, and still come to ogle Octavia. (or vice versa, if you have a husband)

    Sorry Rae,
I'm not. :( I did think about it but the last thing I want to do on my day off is deal with an expo right now. ( that's what I currently do at work)

Since I live next door to Aberdeen, I will expect to see you, Jimbo :D
Let me know the day(s) you'll be out here, and we'll figure out a plan :thumb:

YOUR belief is that agnostics (every single one, apparently) are by definition passive, ignorant, and content to stay that way. Some are. However, I chose the modifier "zealous" to make it clear that I am none of those things.

First of all, there's no law that says I have to choose one religion to the exclusion of all others (although most religions say I have to choose THIER religion or else be "damned for all eternity").
Second of all, choosing not to choose does not mean I am ignorant of the choices (unlike most people who HAVE chosen to be ignorant of all choices save one).
Thirdly, choosing not to choose does not mean I stopped examining the possibilities (again, unlike most people who have chosen to stop examining all possibilities save one).

Lastly, there may be multiple correct answers - or none. Those possibilities must also be considered.

The most passive, ignorant, lazy option is to choose one possibility and consider all others inferior.
