You are right -- it is a $1500 difference.... Sorry... $1500 for leather seats -- it is too much. I would not pay -- but I do not really care about leather. In our cold climate they are really a disadvantage rather than upgrade..

To be quite honest, everybody here in the U.S. got a great deal on the Prius. In the Philippines, a third-world country, the Prius costs $49,000. We got it made over here. Let's celebrate getting the same car for as little as $21,000.

Oh! By the way, my brother-in-law, who's a pharmacist, made $400 per month in the Philippines -- here in the U.S. he makes $10,000 per month. Domestic helpers in the Philippines only make about $100 per month. Only the super-rich can afford a Prius in many countries around the world.

    Let's count our blessings. :)

I second that! In Russia Prius costs $43,000 and it is hard to get: dealers do not discount a rouble, they won't allow you to test drive it before you buy it. Mostly celebrities (rock and pop stars) buy it for the image. Let's be happy that we can get it here at a regular price, affordable to a *normal human*. :) :) :)

    Sticker $23,419
Paid $21,400 after $1000 in rebates, then $200 "processing fee" and TTL. End of January.

Don't believe this deal still available.

Thanks for the info PikRok. I live around Pittsburgh and looking to buy pkg II. I contacted Diehl with your reference and he refuses to agree for the same price.

Just throw around numbers to a bunch of dealers, they'll give in.

Quite possibly although i don't know when these incentives/money factor are going to disappear. Toyota site indicates maybe April 5 but who knows.

I picked mine up tonight. I drove it like a baby but could only get 46 mpg on a 15 mile drive. Probably be better when broken in. Was interesting in any case. This hybrid tech is so clearly the future, it's nifty pulling into my driveway with no engine running.

Who said gas is going up to 4-5 bucks I don't know. I strongly doubt it will average even $4 for a long period, not within the next three years, the economy cannot tolerate it. If you look at oil prices they hit a small spike in 2004 and have been elevated since, so I think higher prices are here to stay but $4 gas was crushing, it's not going to hold if it hits it, not for long, it really killed demand back in 2008. I wish it would just so it would be fun, though :)

Just bought Prius III with no additional options. Paid $22,950 in Hartford, Connecticut. By far, they were the lowest price. Going to take out the JBL radio and replace it with an indash JVC Nav/dvd/yadayadayada.

Btw, this is the third Prius in our family. The wife drives a 2004 and my 2005 (with 140,000 miles!) is going to my daughter.

    Cheers!

    miogps,

I dealt with Broderick, I don't know why they wouldn't give the same price -- at least within a few hundred. Broderick said that my Prius was a special deal (extra rebate from the factory) but I would leave him your number and hopefully he will call you back. Preston Toyota in New Castle, PA might be close as well but I would try Diehl first.

I hope that helps. Keep me posted on your search.

    Skoorbmax,

I watch the markets like a hawk -- usually up to the minute. I would be willing to bet on it that by this summer '10 or definitely next summer '11 we will see -- at least -- $3.50-$4.15 per gallon spikes. The tolerance for $80 per barrel oil is already here despite unemployment near 10% -- imagine when unemployment drops to 8% or even 9.0% coupled with a slight increase in consumer spending and GDP growth of 5%-7%. Watch...it will happen. :D

It really wouldn't surprise me either way. In 2008 I knew the $100+ spike was a bubble and would drop. Then when it was at $32 not long after I knew that was rubbish; I would have bought oil stocks but put the money elsewhere. At $80 or so I just don't know. If the economy is growing fast as some think, yeah prices are going to rise, but I still think it's a bit too optimistic...

I paid $29 494.99 for a base model Prius in Toronto, ON, Canada last Monday. I will hopefully get a government rebate of Approx. $2000 but we are still paying way too much for cars in Canada. And they make it very difficult for us to go to the States and get a car. I probably could have gotten a much better deal, but my aunt put alot of pressure on me to use her salesman so he pulled the 'family loyalty' card and wouldn't budge on price. It would have been smarter for me to have paid my aunt the $50 referral fee and then have the freedom to negotiate with any dealer!

Four days ago, paid invoice price for Pkg IV with nav and mats. Also got KBB trade-in value for 2007 touring pkg 6. Originally solicited quotes for solar sunroof option, but didn't feel it was worth the combo price of sunroof + nav. Just don't get enough months of summer to warrant solar sunroof here in MN. Love the Gen III thus far - except getting used to the flat-bottom steering wheel.

Having a lifelong relationship with a salesman who won't budge is ridiculous.

I know somebody from TO flying to the US shortly to pickup a highlander. They are saving thousands. CAD and USD are almost at parity, you should not be paying that for a Prius right now.

I visited this forum to see what others had paid during Toyota's time of distress. I have been shopping for a 2010 prius for a few weeks and emailing dozens of dealers throughout the southeast US. Getting $1000 under invoice isn't too difficult, just make sure that you have the sales people quote you "drive-out" price before visiting the dealer. Too many like to not mention the destination charge, doc fee, ect..

Anyways, I was trying to get away with purchasing a 2010 prius as cheap as possible. I didn't care about options, the base model already had more features on it than my 2003 4runner. I lucked out and found a demo model Prius II with mats, the extra power outlet, and aux audio input, with 10k on the odometer. The dealer was asking $21,400. I stuck to my guns and ended up getting them down to $19,800 with a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain (they do the lifetime warranty on all their cars).

    What do you folks think?

You did very well, my friend. Tell us HOW you did it: did you negotiate hard? How many dealers did you contact? By email or in person? Was the difference in price high between dealers? How log did it take you to shop? What state are you in?
