Don't these things have electric thermostat controlled radiator fans? While traditional rear wheel drive vehicles had the fan mounted on the water pump, driven via belt by the crank pulley, this dosen't work too well with a transverse mounted engine. It's likely that the fan and motor come as a subassembly, so the only way to have the fan mounted backwards is if it was assembled wrong. Not likely, but possible. In my industry we have been experiencing an increased rate of defective new parts. There could be a batch of bad fan/motors out there.

If the original work was done by the dealer's contract body shop, they would have no way of knowing there may be a problem with the replacement part. It would take some real detective work to figure this out, which would be further complicated by the modern practice of outsourcing.

My prius was imported from U.S.A it arrived here Nov. 2009 , all used hybrids are imported from U.S.A , hybrids were allowed to be imported her in JORDAN only last year as i heard .

My car came from New york city . New york city is generally cold , it could be the reason why overheating went undetected . Or maybe unsolved overheating could be the reason why the prev. owner just sold almost brand new 2008 prius . .

Are these imported by a Toyota distributor/dealer? The potential for chicanery goes without saying.

No , Toyota Dealer Does not import used cars , they are imported by smaller car importers . And these imported cars go throught many checking before allowed in by government agency , but a problem like this is almost impossible to detect .
