Anyon Received a Recall from Toyota

Are you waiting for the letter to arrive to take the car in to get the fix? I received it but didn't take it with me today to get the ABS reflash done. The service adviser didn't even ask for it and he just looked it up in TIS and see that my car haven't had it done.

 

You don't need no stinkin letter! Call and make an appointment because you sure can't claim you didn't know about the problem.

 

Are people really that lazy that they must receive it in snail mail rather than go online to their MyToyota owner's site and print it out?

 

I just went in there myself and demanded a recall and got it straight away.

 

And you won't. The recall is Toyota's problem & they'll send a letter. Just because they mail a letter doesn't ensure it gets delivered. My letter rides in the glovebox as I am not convinced my car has a problem. If you don't like the feel of your brake pedal then go to any Toyota dealer and have the ECU flashed.

 

I had my reflash done the day I picked up the car (Feb.16th). About 2 weeks ago I received the recall letter in the mail. I checked online and the database said I didn't need it. My brakes work fine, BTW.

 

Yes, I and apparently most all G3 owners have, maybe yours was lost in the mail. Mine is somewhere in the car--don't consider it a very high priority. As others have pointed out, it is not needed to get the ABS ECU flashed.

 

And depending on exactly how old your car is you may not need it (hence no letter)

I got my letter but as above I don't have any problem with the way the brakes work or feel. To be sure I took it on for a 20 minute track test session at a race circuit (some odd looks my way) and it was fine.

 

You found a race track full of potholes?

 

Must be maintained by the Michigan DOT.

It looks like from his other posts that John Burns got his 2010 Prius around mid-Sept 2009. It was January 2010 when they started shipping the Prius with the brake re-flash done on the assembly line, so John Burns' Prius should definitely be in need of the recall re-flash.

Just for the record, there are some pro-active dealerships out there. First I got an email about the recall inviting me to bring the car in. I didn't rush since I knew they were doing the pedal recall on all the other cars and the brake issue wasn't a big deal. Then my salesperson called me. He said he was calling everyone he sold a 2010 to to make sure they were aware of the recall. I had mine done a week later (in and out and got a free breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, juice and home fries!). A week or so after that I got the official recall notice from Toyota.

 

Why does it have to be in the form of snail mail for it to be "official"? The recall notice hit everyone's MyToyota account (owner's log-in on the Toyota website) within 48 hours after the recall was formally announced. This is 2010, and last I heard the postal service is on the verge of eliminating Saturday delivery.

If you're able to register for PriusChat, then surely you can do the same for MyToyota.
