Privacy... what privacy... this website has a lot of wrong information about you...

    On another forum I frequent, a member posted up a link to a website that claims to have the skinny on folks...

    The site is 'spokeo"... I didn't see this one before...

    I was also told that you could have the information removed...


    What is your opinion of the laxity or too stringent regulations of data storage and information dispensing by any organization... especially when you factor in that much of the information may be incorrect.

    I'd heard about this site last week and was meaning to check it out. You're link made it easy. Now that I see their 'profile,' I'm not the least bit worried. Being miss-underestimated is OK by me.

    Not interested in joining (paying) for information that is clearly inaccurate, anyway. No interest in correcting their info, either.

    Some of the info about me is actually correct. Some of it is way the f off. Like the value of our house - off by at least 700k (they think its worth $1M+, I wish it was). Also, we had the swimming pool filled in with dirt about 6 years ago.

    On the original question: Anytime that someone can order something on the internet and get the charges for it added to my 88 year old father's telephone bill - I say the privacy and stolen identity regulations are way too lax.

    So that's where my children came from! I can send them back as soon as you want them, if not sooner.

    Many errors, but the amount that is correct is too high. I need to be more active in feeding out false information to those who have no legitimate business collecting it.
    Same here. An offer that good would Make Me Move (sorry Zillow) right away.

    90% of the information is just made up and the other 10% is taken from public databases that you can usually get access to for free on the internet or by visiting your local government office.

    My information is not listed.

    I have done a pretty good job of keeping most of my life off the net and I know of only 2-3 pictures of myself that are floating out there somewhere.

    The site is way off on my middle name, how long I've lived in my house, how many people live in my house, and my marital status. Most of the rest it says "unknown".

    I would count that as Success. I want to see so many errors in these privacy-invading databases that they have no credibility.

    My state's junior U.S. Senator [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Cantwell"]U.S. Senator[/ame], not far from here, is 'married', didn't finish college, and no photos are available. And she 'Is Not Interested In Politics'.

    My info is some correct and some dead wrong.
    My single family separated house - where I live alone as a bachelor - is worth more than a million dollars. Don't tell my wife; she thinks I live in a modest condo townhouse. I wonder where my fireplace is located. And Oh, I have central air conditioning! That's nice.

    They don't even know I exist. I thought perhaps my name is to generic so entered the name of a friend that is very distinctive. They don't know he exists either.

    Frankly, I've gotten better results with the weegie board.
