While I really wanted a Iphone, the wife's employers discount gt me a Droid. It took a while to get the hang of the phone. I too, like efusco, disike the mechnical keyboard. The touch seen, with word select makes for fast typing. There are several apps that I love, Google is great, there is an Ap called Shop Savey, you take a pic of a items barcode, once recognized, it jumps on the web and finds who has it at the cheaest price. That one flips my friends out!!!
So for now I vote Droid, but yesterday I saw an announcement the Iphone was coming to Verizon this summer......we will see!!!

One thing that could be a potential concern with AT&T is broadband 'allocation'. AT&T has had a bit of a challenge keeping up with iPhone wireless data usage. AT&T is making noises about trying to find ways to fine tune wireless data usage, but in the end, I would not be surprised to see them go to a usage-based pricing model. The only thing that could keep them from going to a usage-based pricing model would be competitive pressure (from Apple and the other wireless carriers).

I wonder how jailbroken phones will fare with future releases of the iPhone OS? Given Jobs' near fanatical obsession with control of the ecosystem, I expect that he is spending a non-trivial amount of time trying to defeat the jailbreaks. Look at how Apple went to war with the Palm Pre. And that was just over iTunes spoofing.

Intuitive use is probably Apple's strongest advantage. They went from 0% market share to 20-ish percent in the shortest time ever. Especially for a new market entrant that never sold phones before.

But what is Proco to do in the interim? It would seem he has to make a decision fairly soon.

Summer 2010 seems to be when a lot of the new 'goodies' will be released. Stuff from Apple, Verizon and Sprint at a minimum are going to be released from June to probably August. It would seem to be prudent to defer any contractual decisions until then.

This is definitely something to for me keep in mind. As a former AT&T employee, I have perfect confidence in AT&T's ability to choose exactly the wrong model to fix their problems. Historically, they've shown a disturbing tendency to pile on short-term solution after short-term solution rather than thinking long-term.

That he does. That he does. I can certainly ask about signing up for a lesser plan now and upgrading to something (like, oh, say, a 4G iPhone) when it becomes available. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to work with me if I'm going to upgrade from a 40/month voice-only to 75 or 80/month for voice/data/text.

iPhone (and now iPad also) doesn't support Flash. At all.

Adobe and Google already teamed up to build Flash directly into Chrome, and provide an API for developers to make it OS- and Browser- neutral.

Flash is not going away anytime soon, with or without Apple's acceptance and support.

Droid = open, easy access to your data.

iPhone is a closed format, just transferring contact information in/out is a pain, and non-standard format.

I chose neither, went with Blackberry, no regrets.

iPhone. As others have said, it's just so intuitive and can do whatever we wnat it to do. I got my wife one and we both love it.

The only problem I've got with it, is that she drives the 05 prius which doesn't have the iPod/iPhone plug in capability that my 08 has....so now she wants my car or to upgrade to a 2010 so she can listen to her music through the car.

I'm starting to climb down off the fence ... and it looks like I'm going to join the borg get an iPhone.

The major deciding factor is ending up being monthly price. Both discounts (my current 19% w/AT&T and my employer's 15% w/Verizon) also apply to data plans. Adding that in makes my savings a little greater with AT&T.

If I go with a "personal" data plan, I'll save about 3/month on AT&T. But if I go with an enterprise data plan (allowing me to access my work email), I'll save about 7.50/month on AT&T.

Plus I might be able to tack on unlimited text for free with a code from my current employer.

I can't believe I'm thinking about following the crowd. Who do I have to see about revoking my contrarian credentials? :D

Is the Droid totally compatible with the bluetooth of the Prius? Will it show the caller ID and transfer the phone book?

I'm gonna have to be careful there. It won't be too long until I don't have a "honey" to ask to drive ...

I'm gonna have to be careful in that I haven't figured out if either of you desire that outcome. Seems like a game of "apathy chicken". (no offense)

Not to get off on an irrelevant tangent, but I certainly don't desire the outcome. But we've reached a point where we can't continue with things the way they are.

The bottom line is I feel romantically towards her & she feels platonically towards me. I can't make her feel differently anymore than someone can make me like lobter. And I deserve to be with someone who feels the same way towards me as I do towards her.

We're doing legal separation first. We need to get out of each others faces for a while. We'll see how that goes. There's always a chance she'll realize she's making a huge farking mistake. We'll see.

If not, I've got a good shrink & good friends. I'll be fine.

Totally off topic: I knew a curmudgeonly old lady who, after retiring from a lifetime teaching career, and having decided that she didn't like the school system, went on a multi-year crusade (still on-going the last time I spoke with her a decade ago) to convince the State of Minnesota to revoke her teaching credentials. They kept refusing because there is no procedure for a teacher to instigate the revocation of her own credentials, and since she's retired, there's nothing she can do to incite someone else to initiate the revocation procedure.
