From this statement it's clear why you continue to hold your unsubstantiated viewpoint.

I have in fact done the Sikes situation at constant speeds of 55, 65, 75 and accelerating up to 80+ mph. I've shifted to Neutral at all speeds. I've also pushed the (P) PARK button at 75 mph and shifted to R ( Reverse ) while accelerating to 80+ mph.

I've also shifted to N ( Neutral ) with my wife's 2004 ICE-only Highlander, in traffic at 55 mpg. Nothing untoward occured in any of these situations. Nothing.

The fact that you haven't tried any of these indicates why you continue to believe Sikes the Scammer might be telling the truth. You haven't done the research so you believe somebody else's fabrications.

Do the research yourself. What you'll find herein is that many of us have already done the research ourselves on our own vehicles. Thus we don't fear the unknown. Do the research.

There really isn't much point in trying to educate wwest40. Look to the thread on Sikes' hoax. Page after page of the same stuff as here.

    "..Sikes failed the fourth direction.."

    No, actually he didn't.

It appears that the important thing that happened was that the CHP officer suggested using the parking brake in conjunction with frictional braking. Apparently that was what worked to bring the speed down.

At first I was somewhat confused as to why the normally totally inadequate parking brake would be adequate for the task.

Then I came to realize the part ABS may have been playing in the episode. Front braking capability was being compromised by the HSD system operating in opposition. Rear braking capability would have been being compromised by the ant-lock system activating in order to keep the rear wheels "up to speed" with respect to teh roadspeed of teh front wheels.

So in this case the poor little, inadequate, parking brake really was what "broke the Camel's back".

Lets just for a second go to a fantasy land where Sikes is an innocent victim, rather than a financial opportunist.

He refused to obey the 911 operator to put the car in Neutral. Once the brave Officer risked his life to block Sikes from further runaways, Sikes finally followed instructions. Amazingly, once he did so, the car stopped fine. Almost like nothing was wrong with it.

And again, on ANY car the power of the brakes to stop you (once) completely overpowers the ability of the engine to make the car go. Typically 70% of the braking force is on the front brakes, 30% in back. It would not amaze me if 30% was enough to overpower a Prius engine, but not in general, some cars have huge engines for insecure owners.

You simply CANNOT be the IDIOT your statements make you out to be.

Yes, in a normally, fully functional Prius all you say is true, perfectly true. But, for instance, disconnect the brake light switch and depress the gas pedal fully and then the brake pedal.

    Who will win...??

Does the skid control computer rely SOLELY on the brake light switch signal input in order to begin, EVEN ALLOW, braking? Or does it also continuously monitor the brake fluid pressure for system redundancy in case the brake light switch has failed.

    Are you nearby..??

If so I could show you some actual real time process control programming code that ran for decades, fully successfully so, until a highly unique, extremely rare, anomalous circumstance arose.

Yes, the software bug has been embedded in the code virtually at the inception of the system design, but until the unique circumstance occurred was not detected.

In this case I suspect a coding fault within the cruise control firmware module/routine. The system is getting "stuck" continuously executing the the CC "accel" instruction series.

Name-calling is the last resort of the incompetent in an argument. You've been shown to be ignorant of how the Prius and HSD reacts to N, R and P by your own admission.

You didn't realize that the crash investigation in SD had been completed.

You didn't realize that the mats had already been assigned the blame in the Saylor case.

You didn't realize that Mr Bernard was well-identified and accessible either.

In fact every one of your positions is based on ignorance of the facts. Please do yourself a favor and don't embarrass yourself any more. Back under the bridge or wherever you came from.

The post to which you are responding is pretty much a cut-and-paste from a post on the Sikes hoax thread. I wonder if he more a Google monkey than a troll?

The only 'staws' here are the ones that you're grasping at to try to find some justification for Sikes the Scammer's hoax. By your own admission you don't even know how the new Prius' work. Why don't you just let it rest. You're digging your own grave logically.

Or do some research at least.

    By my own admission....??

Did you really mean to say that the stuff I read in the factory shop/repair documentation at techinfo.toyota.com is wrong..??

Then I wasted $400.00 for this year's annual fee.

While I don't condon name calling, nor do I believe the Sikes story ...but arguing with a schill is a waste of time.

Some shills equate the number of brand new cars leaving a showroom and the buyer turning an immediate resell profit on that car to the number of new cars rolling out which immediately go down in price .Thus taking a stance "If your car goes up, will you give the company money back" ?.

Some shills say "The car has been in the market for a while already, that's why they are running sales" .

Some shills claim they know it all , so if a car's invoice price is not one he saw, it can't be correct.

Some shills believe that when a company withholds important damaging information from the public at an important buying season and lets out the info, 4 months later, the company owes nothing to those who bought early .

Some shills believe that the resurgence in sales is due to customer loyalty and not due to aggressive sales.

Some shills take the attitude "Well I love my car, who cares what I paid for it,in the end I'm gonna get so much mpg I will save a ton, I'll drive it to the ground "

Some shills believe this is all a plan devised by the American Government to get the American car companies back on track and no incidents ever happened in any other country.

Some shills believe if they are geniuses and they own a Prius and no incident ever happened to them..It could never happen.

Some shills believe that when you bought your new Toyota before the news, there was no extra cost involved in buying a car for quality, reliability and strong resale value.

Some Shills believe that Toyota, after the bad news, holds the same buying appeal as before the bad news or ahead of American Automobile companies in the U.S today.

Some shills don't believe that the longer Toyota continues their incentives that Toyota's used car values will depreciate too.

Some shills still believe that only Toyota dealers are entitled to say "How can you compare one of their cars to ours, hope the car holds up, you gonna get what you pay for "

Some shills always agree with the other shills !

OH can't forget...Some shills will say, Irv Miller never worked for Toyota. !

Speaking of shills, I think we have a couple of them in this thread working against Toyota. It looks like a tag team effort to me.

I own one...and paid more under false pretenses and probably wouldn't of bought today had I known what I know today.

What does the brake light switch have to do with anything? The car brakes regardless of whether the lights are on or not.

Of course it "works as expected when working normally", that's kinda redudant isn't it? (it doesn't work when it doesn't work). You're also assuming it didn't work that's why the cases appeared (Sikes and Saylor).

OK to keep it simple and clear. You don't own, drive or show any knowledge of a Gen 2 or Gen 3 Prius. Thus everything you supposedly 'understand' is tainted by lack of direct knowledge. This is clear from your prior statement about being concerned about shifting to N, P or R at full speed or full acceleration.

    You simply don't know.

Thus all your subsequent 'conclusions' are based on a lack of knowledge. Ergo, speculations only.

Regarding the two incidents you mention you were at least 1000 miles away from both of them when they occured. You certainly were not present so everything you allegedly 'know' is from 2nd, 3rd and 4th hand reports. You conveniently ignore that you made prior erroneous statements that show that you probably haven't even read the crash conclusions until I/we pointed them out to you.

In fact nothing you've stated has been accurate from a factual pov. All you've given us is your personal speculations, an opinion based on no facts. You're entitled to your opinion but you really should preface all your remarks with...

'I have no knowledge of the facts of this issue but I'd like to express an unqualified opinion anyway.....'

That says it all and there's not much more that can be said.

Okay. You have paid for your right to be bitter, even if I don't agree with your opinions. It's no fun to regret a purchase, even more so when you feel misled.

Yes, I guess being a fairly knowledgeable and intelligent person, fully capable of reading and even comprehending technical documents, plus having a pilot's license, makes me reluctant to jump to the typical vendor solution "pilot error". I tend to wait for the evidence to make the causative reasons clear. And even well knowing that may never happen.

I have not yet found, even in the articles many have linked to, including yours, wherein anyone states, for attribution, that the floor mat was the actual causative factor..

Note that for me, "may be" and/or "might be" statements do not "cut the mustard".
