Nissan achieves over half of 2010 target for electric vehicle preorders in 22 days - CleanMPG Forums

"Nissan Motor Co. announced today that it had received preorders in Japan for its new Leaf electric car totaling 3,754 since April 1.

The company began accepting orders for its new electric-only model on April 1 in Japan. Nissan has set a target of selling 6,000 of the zero-emission Leaf electric vehicles in Japan by the end of fiscal 2010 on March 31, 2011."

I suspect that sales in Japan will ramp up faster once they get closer to delivery date - I assume that these are real orders and not $99 placeholders like they are doing in the US...

I'd still LOVE to know what the $99 U.S. totals are so far.

Do they give you anything now for your $99, like a coffee mug that says
"Leaf" on one side and "F___ OPEC" on the other side?

If I recall correctly, the $99 gives you the limited number of "early adopter" in specific US test markets and the installation of the "charging station" for free if you've decided to finalize the purchase.

I am not 100% sure, but I think I read about this benefit somewhere.
