    Only in Boulder Colorado.....

A Beechcraft making a crash landing on a highway clips a Prius in the process. The pilot then grabbed a duffel bag and took off running.

Hours later the pilot turned himself in, but no word on where the duffel bag was, or what was in it.

At least the plane didn't run into the Balloon Boy......

More damage to the plane than the Prius?

    It's the comments under the story that interested me. He's a quote of one;

Wow. Do you think the driver is considering whether do dump his tin foil battery case (that we helped pay for) and get a real car?

Oh, right. Boulder - where you spend $10,000 to save $20 per month, as long as you do it in the pretense of "green".

Do you think they're refering to the plane or the Prius?

There is such a hatred of the Prius. There are similar comments made over here in the UK too. Other than be smug knowing we're making bigger savings than this chap refers to, what do we do?

"Local law enforcement cannot recommend any charges in the incident because a play was involved."

    Hey, GrumpyCabbie,

You're right about the Prius-haters : they are ill-informed about our cars. First of all, to get the Federal income tax exemption [200? through 2005 (changing your adjusted gross income by $2,500 & later $2,000)] & later the tax CREDIT [2006 - 2008 (reducing tax owed by originally $3,150)], Toyota had to certify with the IRS the value of the hybrid components (about $3,000 extra, I think).

If you were one of the ones to buy a 2006 & weren't affected by the Alternative Minimum Tax, then you got all of that (theoretical extra hybrid) cost back in the form of the tax credit. Even after the tax credit was gone there were some big cost savings to be had after the $4 per gallon gas price went away in the form of up to $2,800 discounts (depending on option pkg chosen) appearing right on Toyota's MSRP window sticker because Toyota wanted to keep the Prius moving off the dealer lots after the sales slump of them due to the cheap gas again.

We suffer these insults because some dealers were charging $3,000 to $5,000 over MSRP (& I remember warnings here to stay away from 2 dealers who were really price gouging : one was $10,000 over MSRP & the other one was $12,000 over MSRP). And then there was the early Chevy Silverado that was called a "hybrid", but only had the "engine kill" feature that they charged, I believe, $10,000 extra for. With publicity like that, no wonder people get the wrong idea about hybrids unless they do some real research on their own.

Only one IQ point above the comments left on any video posted on YouTube.

The amount of ignorance about the Prius is quite staggering.

Not to be too snarky, it was a 2007 Prius and this is [was rjw] a 2010 forum. But obviously, the improved 2010 transmission shields the powerful magnets better so they will not suck airplanes off of runways.

The plane hit it so hard it knocked that 2007 Prius all the way into 2010.

Does this incident mean that a the Prius is a danger to aviation. Will Toyota be held to account?

There was probably enough dope in that duffel bag to buy 3 or 4 Bonanzas to replace the one he wrecked.
