My Prius didn't come with "factory" bluetooth so now I want install a Parrot aftermarket bluetooth. Parrot say the microphone should be located near the rear view mirror. I can't figure out how to run the wire to the microphone. It looks like it should not a problem getting the wire installed across the front of the headliner but I can't figure out how to get it down the driver's side a-pillar and into the dash. Does anyone have experience doing this? Does the cover on the a-pillar come off and if it does, how do I do it? I want all the wireing that goes to the microphone concealed if possible. Thanks, Bill

First you pull off the door seal (from the "A" pillar). Then the plastic will pull off. Be careful, there is an airbag in there. When you run the wire be careful to keep it away from the airbag, against the metal of the "A" pillar. I ran my radar detector power lead under the doorseal, so I didn't have to remove the "A" pillar plastic. But you can see the short run to the visor.

The standard location for the mic is on the visor, but whatever.

Do you think it is necessary to disconnect the battery? I read a post in archive that suggested disconnecting the battery before trying to remove the a-pillar cover. I assume they are talking about the starting battery but I don't know for sure. I would value your opinion.

Yes, anytime you are going to be working near an airbag you should first disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal and wait a few minutes. Then there's no chance the airbag will blow up in your face.

No Patrick, there is still a chance the air bag can be fired. Static -can- do it (though it's very difficult as there isn't much energy in a static discharge). Last time I read the manual they wanted the mechanic to unplug the airbag and short the leads on it (the leads from the airbag, not the device that fires it). This was for when working with the airbag.
