    Check, thanks for the list.

    Probably so, unfortunately.

And therein lies a problem. Man puts credence is something he can see, feel, hear, etc. Faith is different. Once people put their faith in another man (a pastor, Paul, pope, etc.), saved or not, they are likely to fail in one way or another (man's sinful nature). Faith in Christ alone, who is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow will bring righteousness. How do I know He exists, because I talk(through prayer) to him every day.
Thanks for the exchange, it has been very refreshing.

As for Peter vs Paul, they both claimed to have seen god although only one of them had other witnesses to corroborate his testimony.

The minimal amount of material in the new testament which is anti-gay comes from Paul.

Daniel talks to his cat every day - does that mean his cat is the Messiah?

Thus: Lutherans, Unitarians, Baptists, Catholics, Aventists, Pentecostals, and on and on and on.

The fact is, every religion is making sh*t up. If they weren't, then they would all agree and there would be neither sects nor schisms.

Really... so if we took 10 people and showed them your ranting here, would there be a consensus that Tom183 is a really smart guy and knows his stuff or would there be a consensus that he is an idiot? Or would there be a consensus at all? Just asking. ;)

Your right about the cat thing. It doesn't mean anything to anyone else... just that person. That is why acceptance of Jesus is truly a personal decision. No one can make anyone decide.

I think the consensus would be that I'm just some guy and what I say isn't worth killing people about. Or discriminating against them.

    Among other things...

Does everybody understand that when the news talks about "sectarian violence", they're talking about one religious group doing physical harm to members of another religious group?

(for example, those who believe Paul was the rightful leader of the church, vs those who believe Peter was)

Here is a pretty comprehensive list of alternate gospels.

For reasons not clear to me, it does no include the Gospel of Judas.

He might be an idiot. I don't know, but even idiots get it right once in awhile. His comment about organized religion is spot on. The amount of pure evil perpetrated in the name of religion is staggering.

Anti-religion, but pro-Jesus... Would be interesting, if it were possible.

Your definition of what/who Jesus is/was and represents, is a religious construct - either your own, or one you selected.

Well I guess that is your need to put everything into neat little boxes, eh? You can't fix my Jesus in a box. BTW, who appointed you god? So if you must categorize me, perhaps I should have been more specific and say I am anti-organized religion?
So Tom183, what do you believe?

That's because all religion is made of dirt.

I used to talk to my cat. But I didn't imagine that he understood me. He talked to me also. He said "Meow, meow, meow." I never thought I knew what that meant. I suspected that maybe Meow was his name for me. But I lacked the level of certainty most people feel for their religious beliefs.

"If the Good Lord hadn't meant us to eat people, he wouldn't have made us of meat."

I did while he was alive.

Odd you should say that, since he was. But not because I talked to him.

As Bob points out, Christians discovered the recipe very early on: You tell people to convert. If they refuse, you kill them, preferably in a very slow and painful manner. Burning alive works well. The next person in line submits, but does not truly believe. You then force that person to send his kids, from infancy through adolescence, to your church for intensive indoctrination. Young children believe what their parents tell them to believe. Thus in one generation you have created faith in whatever god you like, using nothing but fire and a sword.

Good list. Note that Christian writings are not limited to Gospels. Just as the New Testament contains more books than just Gospels, so non-canonical Christian writings are not limited to Gospels alone.

My Mexican friend Ana was a Guadalupana, but not a Catholic: She revered the Virgin of Guadalupe, the iconic symbol of the Mexican Catholic Church, but she opposed the Catholic Church, and churches in general, and was an agnostic.

Lots of people respect Jesus as a teacher and wise man, without believing in any religion at all. Jesus was an extremely religious Jew, but he was also a communist. Most Christians believe he was god but reject everything he taught about renouncing wealth and loving your enemies. It should be no surprise that some people admire his teachings while rejecting the Pauline doctrine that he was god.
