Probably the same reason I bought one. I liked the styling, I liked a small car with luxury features, I think gas prices are going up.

Almost didn't buy one because of the cult following and the obnoxious, condescending, supercilious behavior of some of the owners.

We've filled up our 'new-to-us' 2004 Prius with 75,000 miles on it 4 times now. Each fill-up was after about 300 miles on the tank and averages were 51,50,52,50.

We have had our 2010 III for over a month and the lifetime over 3000 miles is 54.5. I am extremely pleased as my 2005 Prius was 52 in the spring/fall and 46 in Winter; while the summer was 49. The 2005 package 6 was traded with 79719 miles on it.

As for the 2010 the mileage goes up each tank full, and we've had a variety of temps from 40-80 over the month here in NJ. My driving is 50/50 highway vs. rural roads, although I had 4 trips into NYC.

I hope this isn't too much info.

my avg is 51 at 13,400. (car calculates 55mpg lifetime avg). In the winter mpg was mid- to upper 40's with >50% freeway driving.

    38 psi in the tires.
Only been using PWR or normal modes (No ECO or EV).
Just "driving" (i.e.: no hypermiling techniques, etc.)
Temps drop into low 40°s at night.
Typical commute is 7 miles each way.

    I can't complain. :)

Just completed year 1 with my 2010.

Calculated average using E10 for 19,070 miles came to 49.98 MPG.

That includes 2 trips up north dragging bikes on the outside of the Prius, which drops MPG down to the low 40's on the highway. And of course, living in Minnesota I experienced commute temperatures below 0°F several times.

That's an awesome increase compared to the classic and iconic models.

Actually, if I hadn't truncated that first May so I could work with full month stats, it would have been even higher!

I've been at 50 MPG, or slightly above, since I bought the car 2,500 miles ago. It should show up in my signature.

I have put 3000 km on my 2010. My average is 47 MPG, my best tank was 52 MPG. I am confident that like my GenII prius, this will improve.
So far I find that it seems easy to get close to the goal in warm weather, but difficult in the 2010 to get vastly better MPG. The car feels heavier in accelerating than my 2007, the glides are muuuch shorter than that car too. I had many, many five-minute bars with consumptions of 2 l/100k in the old car (117 mpg for that 5 minutes) or better, yet I haven't seen one of those glorious short bars in the new car. BTW Canada gives us the satisfaction of seeing consumptions in excess of 99.9 whereas the US cars max out at that figure.
I also find the dash computer is very much more optimistic in its estimates than real-world calculations of tank MPG in my 2010 car. I use Road Trip, an iPhone app to track my true gas mileage and expenses, and recommend it to everyone.
