New install: JVC GPS replaced JBL HU

    There are a few threads with pics. Tapping power comes from a blue wire (from memory) at the wipers. Radio shack sells a wire splice/tap (20 guage) that should work well.

    Ebay is your best source for cameras. As a rule, they come from China, so they take 2 weeks to arrive. They have the OEM (meaning direct substitute) 2009 Camry - which is the same. They also have lots of others... Cost is in the $40 range delivered... They tend to come with all you need (25' RCA cable etc)...

    I think there are smaller cameras, and I bet you could even order an OEM-appearing camera from someone. To tell you the truth, I bought it sight unseen frtom Sonicelectronix. At the time, they didn't have a pic of it on their website, but the sales rep recommended it. I really like the distance lines that it throws up on the LCD screen. Check my previous post- you'll see the detail on my install. If you decide to do it yourself, be patient and do it right. It is a moderately difficult install for a do-it-yourselfer, but you'll be proud of the results. If you have any questions, just ask. Several of us have already done it.

    Thanks, I'll try to dig up that post. So there are cams (factory) that work with the AM headers that fit the factory blank in the 2010 tailgate? Since I used to turn wrenches for a living, I dought the install will be a problem for myself. Just wondering where to rout and tips for panel removal.

    Read my original post. If you used to mess with wrenches and you're not shy about doing it on your Prius, you'll have no trouble. In fact, surprisingly, few tools, let alone wrenches will be needed. It goes together (and comes apart), mostly like Lego blocks.

    I think I could remove the engine and dash with a 10mm socket (and extension), and a screw driver.... Maybe next weekend - I'll be sure to post pics.

    Does the jvc and other am headers protrude past the front of the bezel at the top. And is it recessed at the bottom of the bezel?

    I think it will depend on which screw holes you use and also certainly which faceplate you go with- Scoshe or Metra. I used the Scoshe plate. The way mine was mounted, the bezel protrudes a little at the bottom and more at the top. I would have liked even more at the top to make the face closer to vertical. This would have eliminated some of the glare I get on sunny days.

    Parking Brake lead connection
    It was my desire to allow the DVD player to work while the car is in motion (I know, I know. I’ll be careful). To cause this to work, instead of connecting the parking brake lead from the HU to the parking brake switch, I connected it to the black ground wire right at the back of the radio. Success! I tired it once in the street (at 10 PM at night, I might add) and what they say IS true. It's a major distraction.

    I have a question about this. I am getting ready to install a JVC KW-NT1 and as far as I can tell the parking brake lead needs to go to the + side of the pb switch. Can this be right?
