New Happy Prius owner

Welcome and glad you like your car. There's a good varied group of people on this forum and pretty much all of them are helpful. There are also a good number of Aussie members too to give an antipodean perspective.

You'll find there are lots of Prius experts out there who have never driven one, let alone been in one. I'm a cabbie in the UK and the majority of my customers love the car and the smooth ride it gives, but you do get the odd 'expert' who tells you what it can and can't do.

5l/100km is very good and works out about 58UK mpg or 49US mpg. Maybe you'd consider a 'fuelly' signature that displays your fuel economy from your fills ups? You can have it in metric or gallons and can convert one to the other easily. Check out www.fuelly.com

Google can be your calculator. Try going to Google and putting in:
5l/100km in mpg
5l/100km in miles per us gallon (if you want to be sure since US gallons are smaller than Imperial ones)
5 liters per 100 km in miles per us gallon
5l/100km in miles per uk gallon
46 mpg in l/100km
and so on...

Here's are some favorites
50 mpg in teaspoons per mile
5l/100km in teaspoons per km

Yes, (most of) us Americans using arcane units have no idea what the heck the km/l, l/100 km, etc. translate to off the top of our heads either , myself included.

I have a 2007 and have 37,000 miles with no repairs needed. Just oil changes, filters and tire rotations. The only non maintenance trip was for wheel alignment at 5,000 miles.

 

Welcome! And don't worry about what people say - just enjoy the car. I've been the same way, as I learn more about the car and how well it works for what it is, I enjoy driving it even more. When my pickup driving coworkers give me a hard time about it, I always kid them back about going out for beers after work - except, whoops - they can't afford to with what they spend on gas.

Having said that, dive into the forums. Even the technical ones that you may not want to read. People here are extremely helpful with all questions and problems you may experience.
