I'm no way paying the dealer, who claims there are no refills for the blades, for a whole new blade... I want to replace the blade with a Rain X 16 in. Does anyone know how to take the blade off? And yes, I serached... :)

If it's the same as the old Prius, the rubber blade is held in by 3 or 4 "rails" in the wiper arm itself. The blade is also supported on either side by two thin metal strips. All you have to do is to pull out from the middle (so the blade arcs) and slowly pull the top (I find the top easier than the bottom. Either end works) out from the first "rail". Once that's out, just pull the rest of the blade out.

For pics, check john1701a.com and look for the Prius User Guide.

It's for the Gen 2 Prius but the rear wiper should be similar.

So you can only replace the blade insert.. not the whole blade itself?

    Thanks!

Ohh, sorry I must've misread your initial post. I thought you just wanted to replace the insert.

I believe the entire arm is replaceable (I have heard of PCers who have swapped theirs out for a longer wiper assembly). mmm... Search "mitsubishi" and "wiper"... maybe those threads will have instructions on how to replace the entire thing.

You can replace the insert or the entire blade. I have NEVER had a blade go bad on me in many years of owning cars. Once in a while I would replace a blade because it got scratched up or faded, but for a Gen III, I don't think you need to do that. Just replace the insert. It is easy and most car parts places will install it for you. I know Advance Auto Parts advertises that they will install wiper blades and inserts if you buy them there.

When I replace the inserts in the front wiper in my 2004 Prius, I cut one of the old ones to the correct length for the rear and use that to refresh the rear wiper insert $0 :).
