I made it very clear to my financial guy several years ago that I plan on rallying against future oil/coal dependency. I plan on attempting to educate as many people as I can.

At the same time, I told him, I plan on profiting as much as possible on the stupid people.

I have investments in up-and-coming renewable tech and some in "energy exploration".

Did China sign NAFTA? Even if the tar sands are in Canada, they're not necessarily owned by Canada.
Yes, won't that make things interesting, when China decides 21% of US oil imports will be flowing elsewhere. I suspect the little problem in the Gulf right now has delayed their plans for getting it there, but there may be less objection around here to oil tankers heading East instead of South along the fragile coast.

NAFTA has only 3 member nations.

No, because it's called the North American Free Trade Agreement

Oh, for Pete's sake; it was a rhetorical question. Obviously I missed a smiley. I know damn well China is not in North America and did not sign the Fing Trade Agreement. That was my point - China, as owners of the tar sands in Canada, are not subject to NAFTA.

China actually has a get-out-of-jail-free card on many environmental issues. Remember that Kyoto Accord thing that went nowhere?

As far as increased Chinese investment in Canada, you can "thank" former PM Chretien for that. He was the guy who got all bent out of shape when Harper raised the issue of Tibet, and gave the Dalai Lama a gracious invitation to Canada

Of course, one persons Terrorist is another persons Freedom Fighter, wouldn't you say?
