    Engine Poor power
I changed the engine for my 2001 Prius ( imported used from Japan ).
The engine used to shake few seconds after starting then shuts off.
The Mechanist did many things, including changing the Spark Plugs, fuel injectors, adjusting the Timing Belt sync, Cleaning MAF, Updating ( Or Upgrading the soft ware ), Adding fuel Injector cleaner with the Fuel.....
Now the engine shakes . It stays on, then runs fine.
But when I go up hill the Check Engine and Triangle go on. There are no codes. it only says Engine Poor power.
    Any Advice please

What are you using for a code reader?

The Auto Enginuity package isn't perfect but it seems to read more codes and a useful subset of engineering data. This would let us get a better picture of what is going on. Auto Enginuity runs with a laptop or some of the smaller hand-held computers.

The engine always shakes when you start it? It then smooths out? How long?

Are you getting bubbles in the radiator with the cap off? You're loosing coolant?

This would be consistent with 'hard to start' followed by power and other issues. BTW, the sparkplug igniters can also go bad especially if they get wet.

With coolant loss or leaking, can you do a cylinder pressure check? Better still, a cylinder leak down test?

Usually a Toyota tester is used to 'crank' the engine. With all plugs removed the cylinders should measure:

    • 7.4 kgf/cm*2 - high
    • 5.4 kgf/cm*2 - low

I've not tried this with our NHW11 and unlike an ordinary car, the computer controls turning over the engine, not the key. But there are codes like P0301 - P0304 that should have been asserted about cylinders not firing. This is why I'm curious about your scanner.
