I took my 2006 in for its 50,000 mile oil change today, and I was told I had the following codes related to the transmission and the park/neutral switch:

P0852 (System: Hybrid Control; shown as "hist," presumably historical?)
C2315 (System: Transmission Control; shown as "curr," presumably current)

My car is running fine, and none of the dashboard lights have indicated any problem. Does anybody know where I can find more about what these codes mean? Is that possible? Does anyone have any experience with similar codes and what they might mean?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Richard

DTC P0852: Park/Neutral Switch Input Circuit High, logged by the hybrid vehicle ECU. Possible trouble areas include the P position switch, the hybrid vehicle ECU or the wiring harness.

DTC C2315: HV System Malfunction, logged by the transmission control ECU. Possible trouble areas include the P position switch, the hybrid vehicle ECU, transmission control ECU, or the wiring harness.

Given the combination of these two codes, if you have a recurrence I recommend that you replace the P pushbutton switch.

Thanks for the information, Patrick. Do I correctly infer from your advice to await a recurrence that the appearance of codes like this might be a one-time problem or that the codes may have occurred for a reason other than an actual problem? If I have it checked out again in a couple of weeks or a month and the codes have not reappeared, can I feel safe that there is no problem, or is like other mechanical items that start to go wear out and that still may fail in the future? Since I have no way to monitor the codes without visiting the dealer or a repair shop, I think I'm talking myself into having it checked out in spite of the expense.

    Hi Richard,

If you are not concerned about the expense, then the "safe" thing to do would be to have the car checked out in the next month or so, as you've indicated above. However if the problem is intermittent (which seems likely since you don't see any warning lights on) then it is possible that the dealer tech will not find a problem and will take no action besides charging you for an hour or two of labor time.

I personally would defer taking the car to the dealer until one of the following two occurrences happen:

    1) You press the P button but the car refuses to go into P. (If that should happen, hold the POWER button for 3+ seconds and hopefully the car will go into IG-OFF which automatically shifts the transaxle into P.)

    2) You see warning lights appear on the dashboard.

That sounds like a plan. The dealer told me that they would charge me $110 even if they found nothing, and I would not be particularly happy about giving them that money if they did not find a problem.

Thanks for the insight and advice!
