There is a really lively discussion going on over whether there is any danger of EM or RF radiation in the Prius. I am not concerned about the Prius, but I do worry about EM and RF from my laptop. I spend several hours per day with a laptop on my stomach and am concerned about the possible health risk. If there is a substantial risk, I was wondering if a cooler-running computer, i.e., a lower power consumption unit might be safer. Are any of these things shielded on the bottom? I wanted to ask in the other thread, but did not want to hijack it. So, all you IT people and computer engineers, please help me out.

Most of the EM radiation from your laptop comes from the WiFi card built into it. This will be the same with fast or slow computers. The other emissions are unintentional, and therefor must meet fairly strict FCC requirements, including extensive shielding.

I wouldn't worry about it, even with the WiFi. The signal levels just aren't that strong.

You didn't want to hijack your own thread? I didn't realize that was possible.

Right now I have 900 MHz cordless headphones on and the laptop with WiFi on my lap. Hopefully the combination of the two will cancel each other out.

My kids use to LOVE making popcorn while on was using my laptop in the middle of a PVP game session.
    :laser:
Hint : If the microwave oven is radiating between your laptop & the Wifi router...

So I'd be more worried with microwaves and cell phones than a car or laptop.

On the topic of EMF, moderation will be the key. Don't over use anything.

EMF can have an effect on your body but the long term efforts are not know because we have not had a full generation of cell phone/laptop/microwave/wifi users.

The kids are the ones I worry about.

Shielding is important with everything but I know most companies will do the bear minimum because it adds cost to the product.
