I need to haul some large items in my 2010 Prius, and need to temporarily remove the seat back to front passenger seat. Does any one know how to do this? The dealer quoted me a charge of $100 to de-install, then re-install. Much appreciated!

Folding the seats flat won't work for you?

It will not fit if you simply lower it all the way? For $100, I would rather rent a u-Haul. By me, (in Chicago area), I can rent a full size van or pickup from them for about $20 per day.

I would not personally pay them to do that, if I could rent something cheaper. If they do end up 'de-installing' the seat, I would ask if you can watch them, so you can do it again if needed.

The front seat backs have airbags in them. It is recommended that you disconnect the 12V battery and wait a minute or so before you unplug the connectors under the seat. Then you can unbolt the whole seat from the floor of the car, two bolts on the front two on the back. The whole seat can then be removed with the back still attached. When you disconnect the battery you lose all the radio presets but everything else seems to come back OK. I had mine out looking for rattles.

I think it might be easier to find a friend with a pickup or a station wagon. :)

It'd be cheaper to U-Haul it.

Buy a truck from Carmax, do your thingy and return it within 1 week/200 miles :)

I forgot to mention one other thing, I believe if you start the car with an airbag unplugged it will give an airbag alarm that must be reset by a dealer.
