Hey everyone need some help went into get my 100k oil change and complained about a knocking sound when turning up hill left or right. when I got the car back they told me that I need to replace the Front Passenger Axle. What I am trying to figure out is do I get it replaced from a Toyota Dealer that I have scheduled for Monday or do I go with someone else. I live in North Seattle and I know there are a few places that just work on prius but have not looked them up. I have been quoted about $800 for the repair.

Is there anything else that I going to happen when repaired?

It must have been knocking for quite a while because apparently they want to replace the entire outer axle/bearing assy also.

When the cv joint gets really bad it will destroy that assy. It has probably been complaining for quite a while. Thats a really dangerous situation. Don't drive it.

Its no big deal and any competent shop can do it.

$ 800 at the dealer is a good deal.

Yes it has we have complained to the dealer from about 70k and now we are at 100k we were told everything from the hub caps were rubbing to the dash was rattling. at first you could not reproduce the sound so they would just say we could not find anything wrong. now we are at a 100k and its parked waiting for it appointment Monday Morning

Dude that was a walk in the park for you. You the man.

But I'm assuming there replacing both cv's complete and a wheel alignment for that price.
    God..I hope so.

But with there last post I would not have an confidence in that dealer at all. So many dealer horror stories....

But, your right. They need to get an exact list of parts that dealer intends to replace.

Both sides CJ joints replaced and that bad axle bearing assy. Front end alignment may not be necessary but I would push for that in the price. How do the front tires look wear wise? Even wear across both tires? Or edge wear? Or do you need tires too?

$ 800 at the dealer is fair for all that I believe.
