The US spec 2010 will do the warmup, the EU spec one doesn't have to. as long as you have 4 or more bars it lets you start in EV :)

Yep, I can switch to EV right away from start, if I have enough battery left. There is still that speed limit if inverter is too low temperature, which is not nice.

I think that Enginer Kit is little bit too much right at moment. Practically we have (in Finland) tax law against electric cars. It’s very complicate to explain, but it means that I have to pay extra 450€/year + fines, if someone notice that I have convert my car to use electric only. It sounds unbelievable but it is true.

I think that with small charger, no one can notice if I just warming up my engine with engine heater... ;)

    Hello AV,
So I do not see any difference between the Engineer kit and a charger+added batteries. Realize that the Enginer system does not change the Prius in any way. It is really just a system to recharge the Prius while you drive. Of course I do not know your laws.

Anyway, If you took a 2kwhr kit and put it in your garage then you could use that as a charger. The connection would be the 240vDC output from the converter going to the Prius HV battery. Then unplug this connection and go.

A second choice would be to mount the Enginer batteries and Converter in the Prius and then to keep the charger in the garage. Then you have a 48vDC connection when charging. This would give you about a 5 mile range. The 48vDC connection could look like a process for charging the 12v battery.

Unfortunately a small charger will not work because you do not get enough power. The batteries in the Enginer system allow a small charger because the batteries store up that power so that it can be transfered into the Prius HV battery.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Dan
