Which is why I said cut the 40% in half and you still have significant coin being lost by Apple. Single digit sales of iPhone handsets on Verizon? That is just as extreme as the 40% number.

biggest reason why the i-phone did not goto verizon is because verizon would not allow that much control of the phone to a manufacturer or software developer back then. they were pretty tight-fisted about controlling nearly every aspect of cellphone operation and apple wanted to much control. remember the bluetooth issues with verizon??

but all that has changed dramatically. google now has the same level ofcontrol over the phone development with verizon that apple wanted but was denied. now, will apple come to verizon?? i dont know. i really think android will surpass the i phone if given enough of a chance. they have made remarkable progress in less than a year.

Funny, I noticed the exact same people who say my iPhone is a "horrible phone" are the exact same people who say my Prius is a "horrible car" because it's not as big as their jacked-up pickup truck.

Didnt revolutionize anything. It only marketed it well. Apple products suck to be frank. However they market them extremely well.

Everything that an iphone does, I have been doing for a decade on phones with more gizmos and more options. And the whole "app store" idiocity is rediculous. Every company has a marketplace whether it be windows, android, palm, or even symbian. But with other phones you can download things from lots of other places too, generally for free.

Anything you can do with an iphone, I can do with a different phone... better.

Completely unrelated. I drive a prius, have never owned a truck, and never wish to own a truck.

The iPhone is the easiest way I find to sync up my email from my MobileMe account to and from my Macbook Air.

I have the same email push capabilities on my T7272. I get email from all 3 of my gmail accounts and my old university account. I can send and receive by just replying. Automatically syncs with the server and pulls all tabs and folders from the gmail account as well as contacts. When I read a message, it marks it read on the server. Same thing.

And your Big Johnson T-shirt and Wall-mart Jeans covers your body just like my Armani suit does. Those who don't have style will never understand it, so I won't bother explaining.

No need for insults. You claim the iphone is superior in every way and I continue to show it is not. Most people dont realize there are other options out there that do things better. They just aren't marketed as well, or generally they are marketed really poorly.

And not that it is any of your concern, but I don't wear walmart branded anything and do own a large collection of higher end name brand clothing and accessories.

Falling back to "style" for the iphone is basically saying it is form over function. Anything you can come up with you can do on the iphone, I can do on my phone and usually for free :)

2k1, to get the functionality you describe would appear to require a gmail.com account. I am going through an issue of not being able to synchronize over-the-air between a Droid Incredible and my mac.com email. I started a thread about the problems I am experiencing in FHoP and the only advice is to basically switch mail services (POP to IMAP). I don't care to get into a pissing match regarding which e-mail service is better; I have made a decision to keep my mac.com account. With that circumstance, it would seem that moving to the iPhone 4 is the better alternative for me, given the overall set of circumstances that I have chosen.

Stev0, are you saying that you need the iPhone to synch your mail from me.com to your Air? Is your Air not connected to the Internet (either wired or wireless)? If you have Internet connectivity to your Air, mail synching is as easy as opening the Mail account that comes with OSX. Am I missing something?

Every major email server allows POP and IMAP. And FYI, using POP3 the same functionality was available on my other phones as well. I just upgraded to IMAP once it was available (through the email provider which has nothing to do with the phone)

It does not require a gmail account. My university account works fine. Also the same push functionality exists for comcast clients and rogers clients that I have used first hand. I am certain they exist for everyone.

Also, a quick google shows that your phone supports POP3 and IMAP which would make sense. So the phone is no issue here. Your email client must now support being read externally, which it should to even exist in this decade. So you just need to set it up properly.

That's exactly what I mean, syncing it via wifi. What I'm saying is if I don't want to bother to schlep my Air around, I can just check it with my iPhone. If I want to do real work on the road, I can take my Air. If I need to do heavy-duty work, I use my iMac at home. What could be easier?

And the reason I got an iMac in the first place (and thus Saw the Light about Apple) was nothing Steve Jobs said. It was when I made the mistake of buying a PC with Vista. I personally know a few people for whom Vista was the best Apple salesman ever.

Got it. That is what is moving me to get an iPhone 4 as well - the iPhone will have a complete view of my email environment just like what I have on the MacBook (Pro in my circumstance). Smaller screen, but I have a duplicate of what is on the notebook.

I don't know which was worse for Microsoft - Windows Millenium edition or Vista. I suspect Vista, because it resulted in many corporations declining to upgrade their OS on PCs that were already in company inventory - which prior to Vista, was a source of revenue for Microsoft.

I've used Windows ME also (not my machine, a client's). About the only nice thing I can say about Vista is it was better than ME.

You can get that same thing working on the android phone you have now. I have it on my WM6 phone too.

Worse for Microsoft -> Vista. Worse overall -> WinME

There was nothing glaringly wrong about Vista. It was designed for a powerul computer and it ate resources like nothing before it. Slow and low end computers couldnt handle it and Vista tried to run in slow-mode which disabled all graphical upgrades. Many computer manufacturers decided to undo this and run with Aero enabled to make it look fancy even though their low end chips couldnt support it. This gave them a very bad rap for Vista being slow. There were other problems too, but for most people 'slowness' was the main gripe. And UAC which people just turned completely off (myself included). If you ran Vista on a high end computer it ran perfectly and was much better than XP. But the majority of people buy the $500 walmart special and complain when it doesnt work.

Win7 is basically Vista with more optimizations and the way it should have been released before.

Actually, speed was one of the few things I liked about Vista. I ran it on a mid-range HP, not state-of-the-art by any means, yet still pretty respectable. What I hated about it most was any time I tried to change something, our conversation went like this:

Me: Install a new driver, Vista.
Vista: I'm afraid I can't do that, Steve
    Me: Why not?
Vista: Trust me, Steve. You don't want to install that driver.
Me: I need that driver to run my new hardware. Just install the driver.
Vista: Have you thought of other options? You really don't need to install that hardware.
Me: JUST INSTALL THE FREAKIN' DRIVER!
Vista: You're getting tense. I can tell you really don't want to install the driver.

Yeah UAC was a pain. That's why most disabled it, and third party apps quickly came to replace it. I am glad they tweaked it correctly for Win7.

They went from the extreme of nothing with XP to the extreme of being a nanny with Vista.

Even disabling it still left residual "We know what you want better than you do." (OK, to be honest, Apple is even worse at that than Microsoft. However, it's usually also easier to work around it). And then there was my second biggest pet peeve with Vista (actually, more with Office 2007): Lack of menus and getting rid of a lot of they keyboard shortcuts I used to be able to do in my sleep. I eventually figured it out, but it was even more of a pain than most Microsoft products are (which is saying A LOT).

I usually am a huge believer in "you get what you pay for", but right now I'm using Open Office, which is totally free, and not only does it blow away MS Office in terms of ease of use and functionality, but ironically Open Office files from the Mac are more compatible with MS Office for Windows than MS Office for the Mac files are.

My keyboard shortcuts never changed? Which ones were you using that went away? I am a keyboard-heavy user myself, and didnt notice any difference between any editions of windows. Some even work on the mac with the appropriate ctrl to open-apple-key substitutions. :)

Open Office is indeed nice. I still like my M$ Office though. Usually everything made on linux or unix systems get all screwed up in windows because of the "\n" vs. "\r\n" new line characters.

I try not to do any work in office apps when I boot into my OSX partition. I generally use it for driver testing only...

Also, for those with an iPhone and wanting the new one, but are thinking your contract is past the special time and rate, I got this in my email from an Apple retailer's email newsletter:

    From Smalldog.com
AT&T has bumped up the upgrade eligibility dates for many iPhone owners. This means that some current iPhone users will not have to wait until the end of their two-year contract before upgrading their phone at a subsidized rate.

The fact that this change has taken place in the days leading up to the WWDC is likely not a coincidence. There has been a large amount of speculation that the next generation of iPhone will be announced at today’s keynote.

This change comes as great news for many iPhone users looking to upgrade, especially 3G owners looking to fully reap the benefits of iPhone OS 4.0. To check your eligibility, call *NEW# (*639#) and AT&T will send you a free text with your new upgrade date.

(Hidy) I tried it and I got the $18 upgrade, so for me to upgrade it would be $217, $199 (16gb) and $18, checked it out with the store also, and they told me that was correct. I just signed up for a 2 year contract in October of last year, so I'm no where near the end of my contract.
