I did a search for this and couldn't find anything that would help me out.

I need to replace the gas engine in a 2004 prius. Can anybody help me with this? Maybe direct me in the right place to look? I have an engine im getting from the junk yard. its a good engine. i just dont want to pay somebody else to pull my engine and put this "new" engine in.

    Thanks.

I suppose you could subscribe to
    techinfo.toyota.com
for $15/two days and download the relevant repair manual pages and decide whether you have access to the tools necessary for the job. Good luck!

techinfo is the authoritative source. I do not recall that any posters have had to replace the gasoline engine so you won't find much here.

Art's Automotive has a webpage briefly describing their procedure to remove the engine/transaxle on a Classic Prius:
Prius: 1st gen - Replacing Transaxle

I'm wondering why you need to replace the engine.

Me too. How many miles, and what happened to it to require replacement?
