I finally got a USB drive to work--mostly.

Now that the drive is reformatted it is not recognized when it remains plugged in & the audio system is turned on. Once I pull it out & reinsert the device it is recognized and the 1st song begins to play.

Is this SOP? Is there any way to keep the drive connected & working? Is there a way for it to "remember" where it left off as the CD player does?

I believe the port was located for the benefit of right hand drive. If the cap was rotated 90 degrees with the hinge to the rear it would be better. Centered would be better. On the dash would be better. The placement of the USB port makes the terrible placement of the seat warmer switches look brillant.

I had a similar issue when a USB flash drive I was using was formatted in NTFS format. Reformatted it into FAT format (or exFAT if it's a big drive) and it's been working fine every since.

Now even if I unplug my USB flash drive to add more songs to the memory stick, when I plug it back in the factory nav head unit will remember what song it was last playing and resume from the last position (unless I deleted that song).

This situation is so annoying I did some experimentation & dropped .4mpg off this tank. A Fat32 64MB drive works as you described with a dozen songs on the root.

My 8GB drive with tons of files in many directories, also formatted FAT32 is the subject of this thread.

I have now removed the U3 software & partition and reformatted as FAT32. I'm in the copying process and look forward to trying it tomorrow. Pushing the up arrow for minutes to get to where I left off got annoying real fast.

Reformatting the drive solved the annoyances. Thanks.

After you reformatted, did you put all the songs into different folders by artist or just put them all on the root?

The songs are in many dozens of artist folders. The button on the steering wheel takes me to the next song in the folder or the 1st song in the next folder. The button on the USB screen takes me to the 1st song of the next folder.
