Does anyone know how much the parts department charges for the Prius V 17" alloy wheels, TPMS sensors, and tires? I think i read somewhere the MSRP on each alloy wheel (w/o TPMS and tire) is around $500...

I'm not positive but i think i read somewhere online that each alloy wheel (not including tire and TPMS) costs around $500.

Anyone got quoted on the Prius V wheels?

Many moons ago, I was provided a quote from a Southern Cali dealer of $305/rim (at the lowest pricing they can go...), and yes, retail is about $500/rim.

After a collision, I was able to get 2 respun rims (not quite sure what they did to them, but they look good as new), and my shop only charged me $179 each.

The two rims on my car were traded in, for some which had be worked to look like new.

Are the stock 17" rims any special? Are they more lightweight than other 17" rims? Or is it just Toyota ripping people of? I bet the latter, but hoping for the former. :(

nope, it'/s just people who didnt buy the IV or V wants to make up for it now. They are not brand name nor are they light.

This reminds me of guys buying non turbo models and trying to put a turbo bodykit or turbo on the car

Are the V rims that heavy? What's the weight on those things? Anyone weigh it or have a reference for the weight?

Oh man that is pretty heavy. Its about the weight of stock tC rims. You'd think they'd use some more lightweight materials or something to optimize MPG even more. Makes me wonder how heavy the OEM 15s are.

From a Scion tc chat site, the tc 17 inch rims weigh approximately 22 lbs... so it is a tad bit lighter than the Prius' 17.
Another kind Prius owner on this website sold me his set of stock 17s, but I have yet to mount them with tires and install on my car. At that point, I will compare mileage figures of the stock 17s versus the Scion 17s. To be fair, I will be using the same tires that were on the Scion rims.

It is not 22lbs, the ones I got came off an 06 with center cap, it was 18-20.

The gas mileage BS is overrated, a simple change in driving style will more than make up for it.

My new rims are 17.9 lbs. and my new tires are 20 lbs for a total of 37.9 lbs. How does that comapre to the total weight of the OEM 17" rims + tires?

Cossie - a change of driving style would definitely limit the mileage loss of the 17's, but it definitely will not negate the efficiency loss due to the heavier weight and more drag of the larger tires. I would say I'm mildly aggressive with the 15s and consistently return a displayed MPG of roughly 52 (I know the true calculated MPG is less). When I had the tc 17s, I was driving a lot more conservatively than with the 15s, but the best "displayed" MPG I achieved was about 49.

Yadax - depending on which tires came with the rims, total weight is approximately 45 lbs.

Grip is more important to me than 1 or 2mpg, I guess it depends on what your priority is. I can afford an extra $2 or 3 bucks at the pump if it means getting a safer tire.

I get 42-44 on the 15s, around the same in the 17s.

So, will going with something 5 or 6 lbs lighter cause any problems?
