Report: Infiniti to double fuel mileage with next hybrid

Improvement from 60 to 90% is very close to "double fuel mileage"...
Two clutches, only one MG, a lot simpler, and much more seamless than our HSD...

Sounds like a letter beginning whith "Dear Santa..."

Well, Nissan, give it a try, we are waiting, but please consider we don't believe in such a leap of reindeers.

 

It still need a complex automatic transmission or mechanical CVT, just like Honda IMA.

That's what I was thinking. If Nissan uses the leaf format, well then, they're off and running. Othersise, it may end up being another 4-seater insight claim ... one of so-so mediocrity.

 

Well, I had a Nissan (the anti-Prius, a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder AWD), and it's not hard to "double" the fuel economy of those vehicles that use the VQ engine! Don't get me wrong, it's a nice engine, very powerful. BUT they didn't even cut off the fuel when it coasted! Like just about every other vehicle I've connected a Scangauge to. I suspect because it wouldn't meet pollution requirements if they did.

BTW, Pearl burns 1/3 as much fuel as the anti-Prius did and carries just as much. Pearl doesn't have the ground clearance though, which you really need on Edmonton's streets.

It WILL be nice to see a new "hybrid system" on the market though.

 

Improvement, which is good.
However, I plan to be buying EVs only in the future.

It should be easy to beat the fuel economy of the 2010 M35 at 19mpg epa average, with a more efficient engine and likely less powerful and a electric motor to make its acceleration easier. The car is made to compete with the BMW 5 series and Lexus GS. The article seems deceptive that the Nissan technology is better than Toyota's in the prius, but really it is Infiniti touting they did a better job on the hybrid M, than the Toyota system does on the Lexus GS. We won't know until they let more details out on the car and system.

 

This debuts in the Nissan Fuga aka our Infinti M35 etc soon. Infniti has some of the lowest MPG before the 7 speed so their claims sound good b/c they can only go but up.

It sounds like they are taking the more MPG approach rather than the more performance approach of the GS 450h.

Weren't the Pathfinder and the Honda Passport both based on the Isuzu Trooper, just rebadged?

From what I've heard about the GS is it looks "beautiful" and it will drive "revolutionary" which I interpret to be the new RWD torque vectoring they are working on.

As for the hybrid I have no idea will they follow the performance route like the 450h or offer more MPG. I would love a 30 MPG GS and sacrifice some power.

Its funny b/c Ghosen really blasted hybrids and still is not a fan. Nissan is betting the farm on electric cars. I'm hoping to get the Fuga reviews first to estimate about how much MPG we can expect.

 

I did find that the infiniti numbers came from a japanese test, but it did not specify which one. They are planning to go from 10 l/km to 16-19 l/km. Those are crazy high numbers, but for comparison they said the gs450h gets 14l/km. in pure speculation plugging in the lexus 22 mpg in the city, it would give the hybrid M 25-30 city mpg.

It will be interesting to see how much lexus improves.
