Prius key

    Can someone tell me how to get an extra key without spending a small fortune? I see the fobs on eBay for $40-60. Can I buy one of those then pay my dealer to program it?

    Do you have the Smart Key System (SKS) with the silver logo, or dumb keys with the black logo. Smart keys require dealer programming of the car for the smart functions to work. Used smart key fobs cannot be used unless you have a dealer who will get a new key seed from Toyota. Often the cost of this process is more than buying a new smart key.

    Used smart keys and dumb keys can be programmed by the end user to function as dumb keys.

    Thanks for responding. I have a dumb key (black logo) that I would like to have work like a fully functioning key. Any info you can offer is greatly appreciated. Bev

    Your comment is somewhat ambiguous. Did your Prius come with SKS, but now you want to add a black logo dumb key, or did your Prius come with the black logo key?

    Okay, in that case you can buy a used black logo key and program it yourself. The instructions are on PC.
