Hello all. 2010 prius.. only 300 miles on it.. I am hearing a noise and wondering if this is normal...

When I first start to drive (either straight or in reverse) and the ICE kicks in, I can hear a little "bump" for lack of a better term and also feel it.. on the highway at speed, as long as I dont floor it, it seems to switch between electric and ICE without any noticeable difference. I am just wondering about that other "bump".

Also, I know this is a Prius and not my eclipse GT, but to feel better about the people behind me, I am pressing on the "gas" way past half to accelerate a bit faster...is this bad for the engine?

    Thanks,
    Tony

This is normal. The 'bump' you feel is the torque from the spinning motion of the engine. The noise is just engine noise, but given how quiet this car is the rest of the time, you can sometimes hear it... It is not bad for your car.

The noise is perfectly normal. I'd suggest driving it with the Power Mode for the first week or so. This will give you the feel of the power from the electric motor and make your switching over from the GT to the Prius easier. Once you appreciate the torque from the electric motor, then you can start "gliding" with the Normal or Eco Mode and learn to enjoy the fuel savings. I drove on I-90 in MA at 90-92mph last week and still felt more power were available if I push it harder. Enjoy your new Prius as mostof us do here.
