    Hi all,

The current record holder, Hata_Hata@Tokyo, is challenging new record, over 50km/L(117mpg) tank.

    He is now 50.4km/L (118.6mpg) after 2800km (1740miles) driving a tank.
His target is over 50km/L and 3000km (1864miles).

Please note that Japanese Prius fuel tank has no bladder and can hold more than 60 liters, 15.9 US gallons.
Maybe, North American drivers feel some jealous about the distance because of the tank size.
However, the over 50km/L (117mpg) tank challenge is remarkable, I believe.

Please join us to support his rest of 200km challenge finishing 3000km driving.

    Ken@Japan

    edit: final numbers

    MFD display FE: 50.2km/L (118.1mpg or 1.99L/100km)
    distance: 3040.1km (1889.4miles)
fuel refill: 60.16L (15.89 US gallons)
    calculated FE: 50.53km/L (118.9mpg or 1.98L/100km)

This is awesome! It looks like the Prius is topping out at around the 115MPG mark even when using plug in conversions. My best is 116.7MPGe

Cant wait to see the final numbers.

    I agree.
We are driving a high potential vehicle called Prius.
There are certain processes to be placed on the Guinness Book.

    • a witness from start to finish
    • fuel tank has to be empty before start
    • fuel cap has to be sealed after filling up
    • fuel has to be used until running out
    • driving distance has to be confirmed by a witness
Unfortunately, he did not follow the process.
His home road is wide area of north Tokyo.
He never drive highway during the challenge run.

    Good point!

They use OE version of Goodyear GT3 summer tires.
    Goodyear-City Tire

The GT3 is used as Toyota genuine factory tires since 2003 Prius launch.
The Japanese Gen3 Prius L (38km/L version) also uses this GT3 tires.

It is not rated ECO tires, but we could not find any better fuel economy tires than the GT3 yet.

Recently (June 2010), Bridgestone Japan announced ECOPIA EP100S summer tires, and it seems the EP100S rolling resistance is almost same as the GT3.
