Perhaps you can do a deal with 'colonel570'. He has a broke Prius, looks like battery codes. Your traction battery is likely still good:

    • 1_broke_prius + 1_crashed_prius = 1_working_prius and scrap?
    http://priuschat.com/forums/generat...36-dealer-diagnosis-01-prius.html#post1150581

Rent a trailer big enough from U-haul to carry the colonel570 Prius and haul it to the farm. Have the traction battery already pulled from the crashed Prius. Do a quick traction battery 'swap' and see if it starts.

Send me a PM and we can discuss what a 'do-it-yourself' Prius owner needs.

Oh yeah, the battery is in great shape, before we rolled, it was getting 53mpg!

My dad is wanting to know what we intend to do with the car. (It's sitting at his house now.) He moved it into a machine shed, so it's safe for now. We are going to get a salvage bid from the local salvage yard, but if it comes in too low does anyone want to put in a bid?

If you are not in the central united states area, then I assume your coming for the car. haha

Otherwise, I have a truck and car trailer available to me.

I was hit in the left front quarter panel while doing 25 in a residential .... by a 6 y/o on a bicycle in broad daylight! Guess his parents didn't tell him he needed to stop at stop signs and look for cars before crossing. Near as I can tell, he was in the A pillar blind spot from the entire time I COULD have seen him until he hit me. I just heard this 'thunk' after entering the intersection (no stop my direction), slammed on the brakes and got out. Kid was on the ground at the rear bumper, the guy in the car behind was already calling 911.

Amazingly, besides being scared, he only had a scrape on his forearm. His seat and handle bars were twisted and the chain came off the bike. All easy 'on site' repairs.
Sadly for me the repair to my car was $1,500, $500 paid by my deductible.

My only deer 'instances' were the 2 times deer ran across the interstate in front of me late at night. I don't know if it was luck, the HID lights or what, but in both cases, they kept on moving rather than stopping like (sorry) 'deer in the headlights'. I braked but was never close enough to think I was going to hit them. I know people who were not so lucky. At least they were 'corner' hits, not full on 'through the windshield' potential hits.

Now, can you do the same thing in the newer Prii with VSC and let us know if the car keeps you on the road? Inquiring minds want to know ;)

First I'm glad you and the passenger wasn't hurt. (Except for pride and maybe sore muscles)

I have the no Swerve Policy on Deer, and animals. (I swerve a little for squirrels, and Possums, but I don't make a big effort.)

I've Stopped Short of hitting 2 slamming on the brakes and I've hit two, luckily the two I've hit were both were small, I live in NW Oregon and if I swerved here, I'd hit a tree. (And I'd rather have a Deer go through the windshield than a TREE.)

I know others would say, how Cruel, but when I was young a friend's dad swerved to avoid a deer and wrapped their car around a tree and it killed him.

So I learned to just brake..

My concern is (Because of someone Else's post) is what does the Insurance say? Do they say, 100% your fault? (Because no Evidence of Deer) IMO that would really Suck especially if someone had a brand new 100K car...

Did your Insurance say OK? Your Fault? or Accident?
Because at 16 you don't want any Negatives on your driving :(

Somewhere there is a deer that owes you a great debt of thanks.

In my anthropomorphic imagination she has returned to her family unscathed to tell tales of narrowly avoiding one of those strange Hybrid Vehicles.

Or perhaps it was a male? Who now tells tales of conquering the Man Machine?

In anycase, as everyone has said, you're okay. You're probably lucky that you are so young. I flip my automobile in any circumstance and I'm probably stuck in a recliner watching day time tv while AFLAC pays my bills.

    Lucky Deer, Lucky You...unlucky Prius...

I claimed driving so he wouldn't get into trouble. However, there was no trouble to get into. It doesn't count against me because there was no claim, and no one else involved. However, we had liability only, so all I got compensated for was the tow.

<GROAN>One of the first BS incidents posted claimed another kid ran into a Prius because it was 'too quiet' . . . or so the kid's Mom claimed who let their child learn to ride a bicycle in the street.

I recommend the AAA driving course for the insurance discount. I asked about the tp because I am curious if that was a factor in the rollover.

If you decide to 'part it out,'

    • traction battery - contact Re-InVolt as they could probably use the case and electronics. They may or may not want to the modules and buss bars. If you'll test the individual module voltages, I may be interested in three of the weakest and strongest modules.
    • accelerator, connector and pig-tail - I'd like to put in a bid
    • HV ECU - I'd like to put in a bid
    • throttle body and MAF - I'd like to put in a bid
    • inverter connectors with pig-tails - I'd like to put in a bid
By "connectors with pig-tails" I mean cut the wires so there is as much available as possible with the connectors. This allows me to build 'standalone' systems to test individual parts.

    Thanks,
    Bob Wilson
