I know this has been discussed before in the forum, but i am not sure why it happens.

I was comming back from a long drive yesterday. The temperature was nearly 77 degrees outside. I wanted to filllup the tank, but the the Prius would not let me. The pump would stop on and off and i could only get nearly 4 gallons of gas. I had only 3 bars left on my fuel gauge. I can understand if it was cold, but it was hot outside and the consumption was showing 52mpg. Was i doing something wrong or is this something common on the Prius? :(

I think that problem has more to do with the pumps
At times I have a harder time filling up and you have pull the gas handle out a bit

Try a different gas station and or pump! I have one in my area that is a pleasure to use. Some of them are very hard to squeeze the lever and you do not have the control of gas flow as you would have with a good nozel. Find that station and you will be happy

The gas may be coming out too fast.

this happens to me sometimes. the pump is crap. just change pumps, or just let it keep clicking. if you have 3 bars left, you should fill 6-7 gallons.

I routinely fill up on the slowest pump setting to prevent this type of thing.
