Welcome and congratulations on your new purchase.

There is really no way to check the TPMS other than the fact that the alarm light is not on.

You can check your current cold tire pressure and make sure this is where you want to normally run the pressure. Then there is a reset pushbutton under the dash, just to the right of the OBDII connector where you can reset the TPMS.

To reset, have the car in Ready mode and press the Reset pushbutton. The TPMS icon, tire symbol with an exclamation mark, will flash three times. Release the Reset button and continue to run the car for a couple of minutes. Power the car down and the TPMS will be set for your current tire pressure. The alarm point is about 20 to 25% below your normal running pressure. So, if you normally run 40 psi it will alarm below about 32 psi.

Since 'JDCollins5' Already answered your TPMS questions, I wanted to address your Service Interval question.

All the 200 Prius have a 10,000 mile Oil Change interval. Some folks still recommend the first change at 5k miles, but that is a matter of preference. I have been doing them every 10,000 since it was new, and will be soon scheduling my 4th 10,000 oil change. Otherwise, your car does not normally need 'service' in the normal sense, so just go out and enjoy it!

Oh, and 'Welcome' to the Prius Family :welcome:!

your service manual tells you everything. here's a rundown. If you just bought your prius, you should've gotten the 2 years 25k miles free maintenance toyota has been throwing at us.

    5k miles- rotate tires.
10k miles- rotate tires, change oil. Use Toyota 0W-20 oil only or Mobil 1. Both are synthetic.
15k miles- rotate tires. clean solar roof filter
20k miles- rotate tires, change oil.

you get the jyst of it. just read the manual.

as for the tire pressure sensor, its working. but don't use it as a substitute. check your tire pressure anyways. the system wont tell you if you're 5psi under. Its only meant to detect rapid changes in pressure.

Wow--imagine a manual provided to owners, that describes features and functions. Oh, yeah, there is one! ;)

But, but, but....that would require some effort.:D

One labor saver it to download the manual, it's easier to find something in the manual using search in the .pdf file.

I keep the dead tree manual in the car, the .pdf in the house on my computer.

Hmmm, well, not quite. The TPMS (toyota calls it TPWS) sensors report the actual tire pressure, as well as temperature and rotation rate, to the TPWS ECU. We haven't yet figured out how to get at the TPWS ECU from the CanBUS using aftermarket tools but you can see the information using a Techstream terminal. So, the car knows the tire pressure and it should be accurate to better than 1 psi looking at the datasheets for comparable TPMS sensors (the prius' are built by Pacific Industrial Corp). This is at least as good as most handheld gauges. Thus it isn't just for "rapid changes in pressure". Other cars will report the data to the user, which is a very nice feature! Toyota was just being cheap or trying to draw distinctions from their Lexus line. I still hope to get the data from the TPWS ECU. The manufacturer of my CanBus tool (Drew Technologies) says they can (and hopefully will) do it. I've given them some gentle encouragement.
