If you take care of your car (by giving fresh oil and do your maintenance), it shouldn't make any lifter noise since they are all automatically adjusted and well lubricated. I think Honda might be the only company that still requires shimming? If you don't even know what cause lifters/valves to tick on a new car, let's not get into an oil debate.

Here are several cars I know that suffers from lifter/valve ticks off the top of my head.

    2010 Prius
    350Z
    370Z
    Mazda Miata
    Chevy Corvette

By the way, the 10% of the older cars that aren't ticking are probably the ones who keep up with their oil changes (with good quality oil at right interval).

Also are you going to tell us we shouldn't change our brake fluid simply because Toyota didn't tell us to?

I dont have a valve tick noise. I dont see anyone else here having one besides you either. My dad's 99 miata doesn't have a valve tick noise. My infiniti I35, which has the same exact VQ35 engine as your 350z doesn't have that valve tick noise.

But since you're such an expert in all things engines, perhaps you should start your own automotive blog, auto shop, or become a toyota mechanic.

You talk about the "right interval." So who decides the interval? i mean obviously the mfg doesn't know what they're talking about when they assign you intervals.

I didn't want this to turn into a pissing contest, but thanks for all of your opinions. I think I will stick with the OCI set by Toyota. If more data comes out that this is a problem, then I will take it from there.

Funny, a simple search on google with the word valve lifter noise tick 350z gave me tons of hits. It's the same for a lot of other cars.

Lifter noise - Nissan 350Z Motoring Forums

I can turn my own wrenches, but I enjoy working inside an office. It also helps to make more money inside than outside.

There is no right interval, every car is different. If you want to be cheap and try to squeeze more miles, go right ahead. Just remember Toyota doesn't mention CVT or brake fluid changes, does it mean it is smart to go 100K miles on it? I happen to not do or recommend it because I heard the dreadful lifters ticking at cold start up. (Not knowing what it is or can't hear it doesn't mean it doesn't exist)

Also Toyota was nearly sued for oil sludge problem on some older Camry/Corolla/Sienna. Oil Sludge: The Silent Killer - cbs11tv.com

I'm aware of that. The fact that Toyota has been though that gives me more confidence in the 10k interval with a good synthetic.

Most of them do... lots of opinions on this site and they should be taken as such. Ultimately the company offering the warranty should be who you look to for information.

Dredging up an old thread, but I am curious to know how Amsoil did. Thanks.
