California has CARB which I think requires a better longer Warrenty? on the battery?

My Point is I'm moving to California from Oregon, Should I wait to buy the car in California? or Buy it in Oregon?

    Thanks

Buy it in Oregon, esp. since there's no sales tax in OR. Oregon is now a CARB emissions state AFAIK, so it should also receive the 10 year/150K mile HV battery warranty.

The NAH was only available in CARB states and Oregon got added somewhere in the past year or so. Thus, I assume it's because Oregon got added to the list. See 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan, Hybrid | Specs | Nissan USA and click on the 1 footnote.

It would be best to confirm w/someone who has a 2010+ Prius warranty booklet in front of them.

    Wait.

Otherwise you are going to end up paying TWICE on your registration. Once in Oregon and again in CA...and reg in CA is a little $$$.

Well if you get temporary tags that are good for 60 days in Oregon, then register in California do you not avoid paying twice?

I bought my Prius out of state, but I got Colorado temp tags and flew them with me to Tristate area for the purchase, so I am not sure. Just guessing there should be some way to do it.

If moving to CA soon after the purchase, don't stop reading there. How to transfer my registration from another state to California

"Use Tax: Collected at the same rate as your California city of residence sales tax. Legislation requires payment of use tax on a vehicle purchased outside California and brought into California within 365 days of the purchase date."

Go to dmv.ca.gov and you can find a calculator for sales tax, license and registration fees if you buy in Ca. Generally, if the vehicle is less than 12 months old, use tax is the state sales tax applicable to the county to which you move.

You should read carefully the DMV CA site about transferring the car to CA. You'll likely have to pay taxes unless you hold on to your Oregon plates for at least a year or so.

Anyway, you'll pay more taxes in CA... I'd buy it in Oregon...

Don't confuse our lack of income tax with a low tax burden. The state finds ways to extract the dough somehow.

While California may require a use tax (pseudo sales tax) payment on new resident's cars up to a year old, Washington charged me this tax on a car I'd owned over four years. At least it was on a depreciated value.
Could you also offer this training to some of Oregon's gas pump attendants? I'm thinking of the one who walked past the gas filler door and tried to rip off my license plate; the one who ignored my instructions to not top off and kept clicking the pump handle until gas gushed out; and the one who set my gas cap down in a pool of rain water.

Looks at the bright side, hiring all those gas station attendants keeps a few thousand undesirables off the street.

If you are a resident in Oregon, I would buy there. If you can keep a residency there, you won't need to transfer registration, at least for awhile. So your fees will be lower and you'll avoid the sales tax, which depending on the county you move to, can be over 10%.

Another factor to consider is sales price. Here in Northern CA, we are getting new 2010 Prius for $400 or more below dealer invoice. Not sure how soft the pricing is in Oregon.

That's funny, the other 48 states don't seem to have any particular problems stemming from not having all those rather undesirable jobs...
