MB VS Road Closed Sign

There is a road next to my house that was closed on the 12th for construction. They are building an underpass for a new freeway. They have only dug up the asphalt so it's just a dirt road. They have not dig out the underpass yet. There are signs that tell people that the road will be closed from Aug 12th 2010 to June 30th 2011 1/2 miles away. a sign that tell people to detour. Another sign that warns construction ahead. A 4th sign that warns people that the road is closed ahead. The signs have been up for almost a month. And finally the Road Closed sign and some T stand signs to closed off the road.

As I was making a left turn onto that road (the closed road is to my right) there's a Mercedes come flying down the road (from my left driving toward the closed road). She was doing pretty fast but was kind of far away. I figure she knew about the road closure and is in a hurry to go home and would eventually make a right into my street. So I pulled in front of her to make my left. As I'm doing so I kept looking at the driver. She has her head down apparently looking at her cellphone. She missed those 4 signs back there I guess. I stopped in the middle of the road (The road behind me is closed so no traffic from behind me) and looked in the rear view mirror to see if she would slow down and turn right. She didn't even slow down and smacked right into the road closed sign doing at least 50MPH. I heard a loud crash and the sign flew up. The only damage I saw from my mirror was that her windshield was smashed. Her fenders didn't deform. I couldn't see the hood but I'm sure the bumper, the grill and the hood are damaged as well. She slammed on the brakes right after the impact then drove slowly through the dirt road. She didn't even stop and get out of the car to see other damages to her MB. The Road Closed sign flew about 75 feet and the T stand flew about 150 feet from the original place.

I was thinking to myself pre collision system!! ohh well. I only took pictures of the sign and the stands. The car was long gone by the time I grabbed my camera.

 

I was thinking in the back of my mind -- ohh no she's going to hit. follow by thanking God that the construction had only just began. They only stripped the asphalt off the road. At least there's still a road there. Had the city removed the road and dug up the underpass it would have been a serious tragic accident. She would have drove off a 20 foot cliff. Since there's no road access to where she would have landed, they would need to air lift her to the hospital.
