Well, as some of you might know, I have a 2010 Prius model III with no navigation. I was also very over protective about the car because I was scared to get the first scratch or ding, and chips. So, long story short, I got a Gen II again...yes. I really hope you guys won't call me stupid, or anything that might hurt my feelings. It's just a car, and it makes me happy to drive it, so that's what matters, right? Well, there are many +'s this car has over my old Gen III. like, it has package #5, so it has the smart key on driver and passenger doors, back-up camera that is very useful, HID lights and fog lights that are handy for foggy weather, navigation system that I must have, it helps me greatly, and you know the rest. My plan is to get a Gen.III when the plug-in model comes out in 2012. So i'll be keeping this car for close to 3 years. Maybe by then, Toyota will have some of the kinks in the Gen.III worked out. I'll post pics of my new Prius. It's a 2007 with EVERY option but leather, which is good because I don't like leather. :D

    EDIT:
By the way, I know I'll love the 2012-2013 Plug-in Prius cause it will have the large energy display in the navigation, it will even have a screen that will grow it's own eco system if you drive greenly. Take a look! I got a sneak peak at that screen! :) The greener you drive, the more trees grow, and the sun will eventually come out, and as you can see, a creek will form, and even animals come out! It will be pretty cool.

So you traded your Base Gen3 for a package #5 gen2? I was a little confused.

Yes, I thought about it and it takes $200 off my payment, and I get a lot more options, and the car is in pristine condition.

Who's mad...you can do what is possible, legal and makes you happy.

However I would point out that if you are sincerely concerned about the enviroment, buying or changing and accumulating automobiles as "feel good" pacifiers seems wasteful, in my opinion.

Makes sense. I have leather in my 2007 with everything. Couldn't be happier. I too will wait for the kinks to be worked out and buy a plug-in (probably keep my 2007 for one of my brats). What I really hope is someone from Toyota reads the forums and adds some of the features most of us are adding.

Taking $$ off your payment makes the most sense in this economy.

Hmm...I disagree, maybe in some ways, I can see it being wasteful money wise, but it's not like the car I get rid of is never going to be driven again, she gets to go to another home to make her new owners happy. :)

Yes, I'm glad to see that your doing the same. I can't wait to see what Toyota does in the 2012-2013 Prius, if you've ever noticed, they always seem to change stuff after it's been out for about two years. Like the second generation Prius, the 2004-2005 model had cheaper dash and door panels, didn't have a back-up camera, lower definition touch screen, ect. Then in the 2006-2009 Prius, the dash and door panels went from being super smooth and easy to scratch, to having a cool texture, and the MFD screen had better graphics, and a back-up camera was added, and leather was an option. My payment on my 2010 was $400 with no money down and 0.9% interest. My new car is 200-220 a month. A lot better. :)

Hey, as I said in another thread, I'm not going to judge you, I don't know you.

Not so much, just trading in one new car, for another newer car, but the idea of changing cars before their useful end of life and based primarily on just wanting to ride the wave of the latest and greatest....

And I'm not saying that is what you are doing. And I would say people are free to do that if they wish and can afford to do it.

But for me? As much as I like automobiles and The Prius....it's a big enough purchase that I try to make it based on what vehicle most closely matches my utilitarian needs, at the best cost and most efficiently. Then I live with it as long as it is viable.

This is PURELY my opinion and NOT aimed at you, but for too many people automobile ownership or their garage becomes the adult equivalent of a toy box...and it's just one toy after another.

I suppose their is nothing illegal or perhaps even wrong about it, but it is the consumption of resources usually for trivial purely emotional reasons.

I hope you can now be happy, and that you actually put some miles on this vehicle....in a constructive manner that enriches your life...otherwise if it's just sitting? It's a waste.

LOL His red car now has 500 miles on it, and I put 450 of them on it. HaHa. I figured I'd put a few miles on it while trying to sell it. :) I sold my gold car. For that matter, we have a 2010 Prius III for sale. Anyone want to make a fair offer? I am waiting to hear back from many dealers, but the fact is private party is going to be the way to go. I'm hoping for $22,000 privately.

Here are some pics of the car, VERY good shape, notice too that the wheel well is really clean too, usually in used cars, their full of tar and rocks. I'm just surprised that it's so clean.

Look at those miles and miles of....corn? Nice looking car. I have 2 2007, 2006. Brats have 2005, 2008. I looked at the 2010. I will wait for a 2013 trade. Economy will be worse by then and maybe a better deal. Dump the high payments. Its a car. Take the first months savings and stay 3 days overnight somewhere.

What a great looking 2007. It should serve you well for way more than 3 years and I'd recommend driving it until at least 2017. We keep our cars a long time and the savings really start to show after about 6 years. That's when the insurance, registration and such fall to almost nothing.

Heh, I know just how that feels. My first "marquis" car was a beautiful blue BMW 320i. I too was overly concerned about a ding etc. until I backed it into a trash can in my garage and put a little chip in the paint. I was so relieved I think I actually said "whew" out loud.

Since you appreciate a well pimped prius ... consider the Gen III potential:

A bit too much for me - but it's one of my favorite reworks ... for someone else to own.

    Haha, I just try and take good care of things because if you do, they'll last forever. Just like now, the engine compartment is so clan in my Prius right now, you could sit a sandwich on it and pick it up and eat it. Same thing goes for the interior. I actually got a great idea from a man named Joe at the Green Drive Expo to put a white towel on my dash that will be big enough to cover everything like the steering wheel and other things so that way when its parked outside, the interior won't get sun baked. (I always try to park in a shady spot anyhow.) Also, what I'm about to tell you might sound crazy but if you lived in IL, you'd know why. I call it my "Hillbilly 3M film" and what I do is take some GLAD plastic cling wrap and wrap my hood, headlights, bumper, and side mirrors. I smooth it out and it sticks, and it actually works! That way when I go for my country drives to the park, and I come home, all the bugs are on the wrap! It works wonderfully and helps prevent bug chips and hard to remove bug splats. I'll take some pictures of the wrap on the car to show you that it doesn't look to ridiculous. (;

Hm, a little too much for me too actually haha. I like things to look stock, I guess I'm just a stock person. That does look neat though! Thank you for pulling that up for me. :)

It is not as clean as yours. Your engine compartment looks like it just came from the factory. I need to get busy. I like your idea of the temporary protection with the Saran Wrap. I can see times where that would be a good precaution. I think the window sun shield might serve the same purpose as the white towel on the dash while also reducing temperatures. Maybe you already do both-

im keeping my two salvaged priuses for as long as as i can ( i mean until a severe accident or complete drivetrain damage ) so far my 01 prius has been very good to me, last year installing an updated hybrid battery ( 2008 modules ) and my 05 package 9 has no problems what so ever.
