Hello. I've tried searching through the forums and internet for this answer, but so far no luck finding one.

I am looking at getting a 2010 Prius IV (SR package). I have an iPhone 4. Can anyone shed some light on how the current USB connections work for the iPhone? Specifically I'd like to know if its still possible to control the music directly on the iPhone when its plugged in or does the head unit take over complete control? (The former is preferable to me).

    Thanks.

If you use the USB, then you have full control of the Iphone4's music capability. You use either the headunit or the steering wheel controls. Your IP4 also charges while connected via USB.

You can also use Bluetooth music streaming. But, with BT streaming, you ONLY have "play" and "pause" functions...you cannot control it via steering wheel controls.

Thanks. My question specifically though is can you still control the iPhone 4 from the iPhone 4 or am I forced to use the headunit or steering wheel controls?

Plugged into the USB, no. If you use bluetooth streaming, yes. I have the bluetooth streaming on my 4Runner and an iphone 4 and I far, far prefer the streaming to having it plugged in. It starts streaming as soon as you turn the vehicle on.

Supposedly iOS 4.1 will include the functionally for next and previous track in the bluetooth profile. The voice control uses the bluetooth's microphone as well, though you activate it by holding the home button versus pressing the steering wheel voice button.

FYI, iOS 4.1 includes the upgraded bluetooth profile to control the iphone tracks (forward and backward) from the steering wheel controls while using bluetooth audio streaming.

No, if you are plugged in through usb, the head unit and steering wheel are the controls. You can plug it into the aux jack (I assume it is still there) or use bluetooth if you want to control it from the phone.

To get the option of phone or head unit control over usb, you need to go aftermarket. The phone does sound good over bluetooth, just not as good. If you are playing it alot using the phone for control, and using apps like pandora, I would plug it into the aux jack.
