Really? So all the people there @ the site were flown in from around the country to picket/march whatever? Wow there is more of a conspiracy here than I thought?

    Nice smoke and mirrors.

If the people of New York protested for slavery, would they be right because they protested for it? The group that protested were bigots, nothing more and nothing less, they don't like that religion having a place near ground zero, thats bigotry, since they don't protest the strip club, or the adult video stores near it. Also, the boards that approved the center are chosen or appointed by the people's representative, they made the decision for the people of New York based on rational and informed information. The people protesting the center are neither informed, rational, or seemingly aware of the reality of what they are protesting about, other then religion.

Well we are just going around in circles. Since as you say the board has made the decision all is settled,,, it is a done deal. The protests are just that and nothing will come of it... so what is all the arguing about?
If by chance the protesting might have convinced the sponsors to build somewhere else in the city thus appeasing most of the concerns, wouldn't that have been a good compromise?

It's not about compromise, it's about freedom, freedom to do what the heck you like and to hell to anyone elses opinions.

How is it a compromise, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that religious center, its not about honoring the 9/11 terrorists, its not about promoting hatred, its not about promoting terrorism, its none of that, so what "concerns" are being addressed, other then religious hatred. As far as I understand that's not something we should promote and recognize in this country, and this coming from an atheist.

Whats being argued about is bigotry and hatred, one side thinks that is wrong, the other side thinks that is a wonderful thing.

Well me thinks that is where the problem lies.

That's the biggest problem in this country right now, getting worse as far as I can tell, accepting people being wronged in the name of religion.

I'll call the people protesting the Burlington Coat Factory Cultural Center bigots much the same way I'll call the Atlantic Ocean very wet. I call them that because they are. And until I hear a reason not based on narrow-minded bigotry not to build it, I'll keep calling them that. And since I personally consider bigotry to be wrong, I'll keep calling them wrong.

We would agree on a lot of things if people were fair and honest, unfortunately they aren't.

I don't agree with this statement. If I were being honest I might.

    Anybody who says:

    1) All Muslims are terrorists

    and/or

    2) All terrorists are Muslims

Every reason I've seen not to build the Burlington Coat Factory Cultural Center is either one or both of the above reasons.

The issue of insensitivity and others has been raised numerous times. But you're so closed minded to any but your own opinions that you've now defined yourself as the bigot. This stubborn refusal to acknowledge other views and your intolerance towards those who hold a different opinion is quintessentially the definition of bigotry.

I think you need to reassess your views.

OK, let's look at the issue of insensitivity. "You're offending people who think that all Muslims are terrorists." TFB. I also don't mind people building synagogues even though that offends people who think all Jews should be put in ovens.

I think you need to reassess your views.

here's something i don't get either. for the people that say "New Yorkers are ok with it, so why not everyone else?"

I bet everyone here remembers exactly what they were doing at the moment this happened. for a long period of time, we were all New Yorkers. we shared in the grief of what happened because it was an attack on our nation, not just New York. The nation was in a funk for a good long time. For me personally, it was about a year until I started to feel like things would eventually be ok. I'm not by any means trying to hone in on what a New York resident went through, but this event altered our nation. And let's not forget, it was also in Pennsylvania and D.C. as well. The enitre attack affected all of us, and so it's pretty natural that any American might take an interest one way or the other on this issue.
