The revised target completion date is now September 10. Still having trouble with parts availability.

The collision repair shop also offered to take my "rebuilt" vehicle to the 3M windows tinting shop (where I purchased the product and service) to have the replaced windows tinted at no extra charge. I thought that was nice of them to do that.

** New Update: Received a "letter" from my insurance company, and it was a papercopy of the estimate, dated 8/26/2010. A second re-estimate was done (called Supplement S02), so the repair cost has now increased by another $673.03 to total $10,554.33. I have a $1000 deductible... **

People stereotype Prius owners as treehuggers, but didn't realize it also applies in reverse :D

Sorry to hear/see your Prius problem. I had a (minor) version of this last week when, w/just about 500 miles on my week-old Prius, I had an accident in a local strip-mall parking lot.
Good news: the damage is only about $800(almost all covered), and I'll get imy Prius back tomorrow. Bad news: I think I've found a blind spot on the left-front side of my Prius windshield.
I'm not trying to avoid fault f/the accident, just saying part of it(I think)was caused by the thick front windshield post and the stupid little triangle window behind it. This was my 1st 2-car vehicle accident in about 35 years. Bummer.

Yep, the blind spot is similar to the newer Honda Civic hybrids where the windshield is curved, then you get the curved pillars and the small windows. I can understand. In the 2010 Prius, I have had to be more diligient in looking multiple times to get around the blind corner spots.

I again urge you to pursue the diminished value against your insurance co. Trust me, they won't mention it.

The value of your car has been severely diminished. Just research what 10K worth of damage repairs does to the resale value of a 20-25 K car. It is not pretty what the damage has done to the value of your vehicle.

Let's say you are really unlucky and joe schmuck totals your car a few weeks after you get it back from repairs. The settlement offered by joe schmucks ins. co. will be based on the book value of your car, reduced by it's accident damage history. That accident damage is now tied to your cars VIN number.

The resale value of your car has taken a serious hit, you should be compensated for that.

Thanks for the advice. I waited until my car was repaired to get the total repair amount before I asked this question. I checked with my insurance company, and the inherited "diminish value" is not part of the comprehensive insurance coverage (according to the insurance company). If it involved someone damaging my car, the diminish value would be calculated. I have confirmed this with the state department of insurance: it is not calculated on a "first party" claim, only on a "third party" claim.

Thanks everyone for your support. I just received my rebuilt vehicle from the collision repair place, and it looks better than new. The shop even had the replaced windows tinted by the same place who did the original 3M tint installation (which was only 8 hours old when the neighbor's tree took out my ride).

I'll upload a couple of photos in this thread soon.

    Thanks again.

Cool...not too bad, just a month to repair all of it. It once took a dealership 1 month to replace my front bumper and re-finish a wheel......
